Default Best Cam For Turbo LS1

Folks. Going to be installing a Single Turbo from on 3 performance onto my 98 LS1. I'm not wanting to make crazy power. I am wanting to add a good sounding cam that will help with the boost. any recommendations.

Here's what my 02 Camaro sounds like. Cam specs are:
230/230 @ .050
.608/.608
115+2

The single most delicate data point for cam selection (and especially for turbo) is the LSA; even a single degree is significant.
One degree of LSA change represents 2 degrees of overlap change, and 4 degrees of total intake and exhaust duration change (1 degree on either end of both).

Rough guide to comparing overlap effects: Vizard estimated that the "overlap triangle" window area varies as the square of the overlap nominal (not .050") duration. E.g., the difference between 30 degrees and 40 degrees isn't 33% more area (40 / 30), but 78% more area (40^2 / 30^2).

The OEM cam is more than adequate and works really well with boost.

If you are just wanting something aggressive sounding you'll want the low lift moderate duration cams. Something like the GM LS1 "hot cam". Works with the factory part power band and valve train parts. Mild drop in single spring upgrade and go. (PAC 1218). It also has low overlap and is boost friendly.

I'd look at the GM hot cam or the Howards copy of the hot cam if you want to pay a little less. Lots of Utube videos out there with this cam so you can hear the idle lope.

The edelbrock 2215 Cam shaft will also work well and is even more aggressive sounding. I ran it in 280z with a turbo 4.8. Sounded mean, plenty of early RPM power and relatively boost friendly.

I like the speed inc cam I have. It's there TU1 and speced 225/225 .581/581 113LSA

I just keep cramming boost down it's throat. I could probably benefit from a different grind

Stock works great. You likely wont make any more or less power with a cam, just change where and how the power is made.

I went with the gmpp ls9 supercharged cam. Have to change cam sensor to front but not expensive considering cam is only $125 from summit if i recall. New front cover was $45 and sensor from local parts store.

Make sure you use a good spring, It’s a more aggressive lobe than you’d think. I liked mine. Less power than stock to 4k ish, then it really kicks in at 5k to redline. Easier on the gen3 rods IMO.

Anybody have experience with the GM Hot Cam? Little pricey, but being that its more of an "OE" grind I would think its made to be easy on the valvetrain.

My BTR 218/223 is very similar and so far I'm happy with it, but I think the Hot Cam would work as well and maybe easier on parts.

Howards makes their version of the hot cam and it's about the same as any aftermarket cam. There is a link to it in my post above for 350.
