Default 1986 Ford LTD/L92/BW S-480/Holley EFI Street Car

Figured I'd post up some pictures of the car I've been working on. It's a 1986 Ford LTD Brougham that I picked up from the second owner w/ 60k miles on it. It currently has an L92 w/ a JFR cam, BW S-480 from Jose, 4L80E w/ billet PTC, 8.8 w/ locked 3.27 and 31 spline Moser axles.

Here's an engine bay shot:

Here's a side shot:

So far I've only been a 10.8 @ 131 on 10#'s of boost and a crap sixty foot. I've since removed some weight and added a flex-fuel sensor to run on E-85. Hopefully I can get some passes in in the next few weeks. Here's a video of the 10.8 pass:

Love the LTD! A good friend has a black LTD LX. These cars work very well. Are they P71 wheels?

It's a long interesting story about the wheels. They're actually Dodge Magnum wheels 17x7 up front and I made the rears. I cut 4 wheels apart to make them 17x9's.

No, I haven't had this setup on a dyno. I hope to get it to the track in the next few weeks so I can try out the E-85 and more boost.

Is he on 4eyepride? He might be the one I got the idea from. I have a QA-1 k-member w/ coilovers and 13" cobra brakes up front. In the rear I have Summit Control arms with some bushings a guy made for me (the summit ones lasted a week), 31 spline Moser axles, Spartan Locker, and SN-95 discs. The car drives very well and I'm pleased with how it turned out. It still has the plush blue cloth interior that rides like a couch!

408GT how do you have the boost control setup (co2, dome pressure, boost vs speed etc etc)?

Thanks. It runs a lot better on E-85 and with a few more pounds of boost.

I have the dual Holley solenoids running off the compressor by boost per gear. I have 10 lbs springs in my wastegates right now and I'm still playing with the amount of dome pressure to achieve my total boost (about 16 lbs or so).

I guess I forgot to mention what the car weighs. On the 10.8 pass it was 3485 w/ me in it, so according to Wallace calculator that puts it at about 600 whp. I've since gone through the car and pulled out some weight.

Do you like that method? So when you lift the throttle, the system resets itself and starts over? I wondered if things would get out of sync if you had to peddle the car a bit or get in/out of the throttle at any speed. I'm doing boost/speed...still experimenting with it, seems to work good even with one solenoid.

So far so good. I haven't delved much into it other than trying to target total boost. On another setup I built an on board air system and it worked great, but I didn't like all of the extra stuff it took to use it.

Nice LTD, any idea on race weight? Can't tell if you have a cage in it or not?

It weighed 3485 w/ me in it the day I ran 10.8's, but I have since removed some weight with a tubular k-member and a few other things removed. It doesn't have a cage. I had this drive train in a 78 Zephyr before this car and the cage was the reason I moved everything over. The cage and drag setup didn't make for a fun streetcar.

Thanks man. I was into Mustangs for along time, then in the early 2000's I built a Fairmont Box top that we had laying in the back yard. I sold it but regretted it. Then I built a Mercury Zephyr (which I still have) as a nitrous sbf car. It ran pretty good (5.60's on a 250 shot), then it seemed like everyone jumped on the Fairmont band wagon, and I wanted something different with the LTD. People ask me all the time what kind of car is that?
