Gen 3's aren't as beefy as gen 4's.

Car started life at 305/313 rwhp so can say I'm pretty happy with the return in power out of the sbe at this point
That's awesome, especially on pump. I'd be very happy if I could make those numbers and live that long.

I'd say his had to be in the tune then from everything you guys have said. That sucks because I guess I need to have mine looked at then.

All LS2's have the same pistons and rods.

ALL LS based engines in 05 switched to the floating rod/piston combo, regardless of whether they were gen 3 or gen 4.

My bad man, I've been working a ton of hours and for whatever reason, I was thinking it was a ls2 I was picking up, it's just a 6.0 with gen 3 rods.

So will I have any problems swapping them out with gen 4's?

No worries. If you have a crank and rods from a Gen 4 you can swap them over. Gen 4 pistons and rods on a Gen 3 crank will need to be balanced.

FWIW I have had the Gen 3 LQ4 in my car going on 4 years now.

What kind of power are you making? Is that the one you ran your 9 sec pass in?

Yep. This thing has seen 600+ rwhp since it's been in my car. Has had a couple different cams and going on the 4th turbo, lol. With the last turbo, cast wheel S480 92mm 1.10 ar it made 730 rwhp and we stopped there. New turbo is a billet S480 96mm 1.32 and I plan on pushing it harder this year. It will go 150+ in the 1/4 this year easily. It would have done it last year but had some issues at the end of the season with the oil feed at the track and only made two passes.

Ryan tuned my car as well. This year I am making the switch to MS3 though.

Congrats! That's some pretty good numbers.

I'd be happy with 600-650rwhp if it could stay together for a couple years until I can figure out what route I wanted to go in. Not sure if I will keep it there, or forge it to make some big power. So if anyone has a gen 4 crank, pistons, and rods laying around that they want to sell, I'll buy them lol

I just got into fi over the winter so I'm trying to learn as I go. I originally just planned to keep it sbe, so I'm just running the tc78 and I'm not sure how much power I can make with it. I wished I had went a different route with it now. I'm just trying to do this so it will last until I k know for sure what I want, but still be happy with it while I'm doing it.

I've only ever heard of the LS1 blocks doing this. That's a new one for me.

I've seen a few of the aluminum 5.3 blocks around 1200whp now without any flexing issues.

I dont understand why you want to swap the ls2 internals out with gen4 6.0 stuff? The LS2 have the better rods, there is no point to swapping them out.

I've seen two LS2 blocks twist up the mains at that level

Yeah I said earlier that it was my fault for saying that, sorry . For some reason, I had it in my mind that some early ls2's came with gen 3. I think I had it confused with the early 04 6.0? Didn't those have gen 3 and then change to gen 4 later that year?

My main concern was the block itself since it was aluminum.

Realistically, I don't see myself wanting no more than 750-800rwhp. For now I'd just like to run it between 600-650rwhp on pump it it's possible. I just want it to live and not have to worry that it's at it's breaking point, providing the tune is in check.

The LQ4 never came in an aluminum block. The first aluminum 6.0 was the LS2.

Idk what I'm thinking about then. What 6.0 came with gen 3 rods? That 6.0 I'm looking at has the gen 3 rods in it?

Edit: just saw you said aluminum, I meant iron block 6.0

I want the aluminum ls2, but until I asked on here, I heard they didn't handle boost well (block).

I'd run the LS2 the way it is with the stock 243 heads. It seems to be much stronger than the LS1. Many people with corvettes make 600+ out of their stock LS2s with boost. The higher compression will keep it "peppy" while your out of boost and make it more fun to drive.
