Default Turbonetics Tc 78 "7868 Benita" turbo horsepower - 1/4 limits?

Looking to see what people have done with this turbo. There are not many threads on this turbo for some reason. If you have 1/4 mile times or dyno numbers please post them here with your full setup.

I ran 11.2@124 with a crappy 1.8 60ft on 9lbs of boost. Setup is forged 5.7, huron speed v1 truck kit with TC78 "7868 turbo", triple disc 3400 stall, 4l60e, s60 rear, walbro 255 with hotwire.

I plan to replace my stock radiator with a griffin and up the fuel system with a twin pump setup that will support 800rwhp. Don't want to spend anymore $ on parts this season so will be sticking with the tc78 atleast one more year.

Hoping I can make 750rwhp with this turbo. The real goal is to run 9.9's and trap 135+ mph. Are these goals realistic with this turbo?

So please post up what you have been able to do with this turbo or if you have maxed one out!

Went 127mph in a 5500lb truck with one. Should go 140 in a car.

ran 10.50 at 130 on 10# boost. with a 6.0, 350th, and 3.23 gear. 3550 lb street car.

sold the turbo and went to a s480 and the car ran the same et at the same tune/boost . I'm sure it whould have ran in the 9s easy if I had turned the boost up.

Problem with that turbo is that it makes solid power between 10-12psi (should see 650rwhp thru an auto), but once you up the boost the gains fall off dramatically. In other words, if you are seeing 25hp/psi up to to 12psi, then it drops off as boost goes up (15hp/psi) after that. This is just an example as it varies by setup, but that 68mm wheel is gonna choke the combo up at higher boost levels.

The fact that there is no compressor map for this turbo is super annoying.

I made 680 at 15lbs of boost through a t56. Power fell off very hard above 6k rpm so I'd say it was pretty much maxed out, this was on a 5.3l. Your 750 might be possible but it would be at a very low rpm.

Don't be fooled by the power curve shown, boost controller wasn't set up properly which caused a very slow ramp rate.

Honestly I'm sure I would be happy with 700rwhp. I would guess I'm around 550rwhp and run 11.2@124 on 9psi and plan to get the 60ft way down. 15psi add 120hp and I should be in the high 9's@138ish mph.

If there was a compressor map, you could actually have some idea if what you're saying was true. For this reason, I like BW turbos. You can actually see for yourself what they can do and not rely on "black magic" and "experience."

I made around 580 on 7 psi through a t56 and ran 10.9 @ 129 3750lbs. Switched to a precision 76/75 and made 8 PSI = 634 / 616, 10 PSI = 694 / 680, 11 PSI = 722 / 701

contemplating throwing this TC7868 on my 5.3 im building, goal is 600whp, looks like this turbo might be at around its limits? should i go with a bigger turbo? sorry for hijacking lol
my setup is:
gen 4 5.3
241 heads(~9.4CR)
T56
Isky 215/215 112
60lb injectors
450 pump
necessary valvetrain upgrades
would like to stay below 15psi

If you haven't already purchased a turbo, you would be better with a 76/75

I have a T76 on a 5.7L, same core as a 76/68 but a 3" compressor outlet, also have a large 1.32 AR exhaust housing.
have made 775rwhp and traped 136mph in a 2000kg car

A local foxbody had one on a stock 6.0 a 4-5yrs ago and went low 9s at 150mph. Car was around 3200lbs. IIRC he ran his fastest times around 20psi.

Here is a video of him.

less back pressure with the 76/75, so more power potential, and won't fall over at high RPM's.
