Cool deal. Bad news for trans. Changed out fluid today since it's been giving me a few issues. Dropped the pan and fluid looked good with the normal fine black material in the bottom. Put in Hy gard hydraulic fluid and also hooked up a gauge to the line pressure port and. I'm seeing 115-140 in 1st and 2nd and then when I shift too 3rd pressure drops to 70-85. Not 100% what causes low line pressure( havnt googled it yet....I'm sure many things can cause it) but I'm sure that's what the issue has been and resin 3rd seems to be not pulling as hard as it use too. Maybe someone who knows can chime in.

Nice, I'll be running a Th400 with a RMVB and a brake, bought it from a guy that had it in a late 90s camaro, has about 8-10 passes on it

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea, I want to make some power but I won't be racing it all the time so my trans is over kill but I got a bad *** deal on it and needed a trans for my 355 then decided to 5.3 swap it

Yeah I'm pretty much over this trans. I hate having transmission issues. Hopefully I'll be past it soon

Pulled the trans out last night and took it to the guy I bought it from this morning. He is going to bring it back to the trans guy and he said he would fix it so it shouldn't cost me anything. Hope I can get it back without waiting a long time.

Just curious, are you running a paper filter in the tranny with Hygard?

I'm running the filter that came with the deep sump pan. It was a yellowish color when new and assuming it is a paper type filter.

I was just asking because I've read that Hygard and paper filters are a no-no. I don't have first hand experience but most folks use the mesh type filter that you can get at NAPA. If you hurt the tranny it might have been starving for fluid.

The tranny was acting up 3 to 4 weeks before I swapped to the hygard. I'll look at swapping the filter when I get it back . Also I think trans issue were from the vacuum modulator and the check valve I had in line. I think the issue was under boost it was loosing line pressure force and over time started slipping more and more.

Ok got some info on the trans today. All looked good inside. No burnt clutches and valve body seemed ok. I ordered a full manual to go in it and it'll be back together in s week or so. Hopefully that'll solve the 3rd gear slipping. I know the trans guy said nothing looked bad inside but maybe something small in the other valve body was allowing fluid to leak. Fingers crossed

Trans is finished and back together with full manual valve body. Got the convertor ready to send off
To get checked out and cleaned. Leaving for Midland and new Orleans for work so it'll be a couple months before I get the trans picked up from my friend and back in the truck. While I'm working I'm going to try and get a bearing/shim kit for the rear and and change the gears from 2.73 to 3.42 I got laying around. Then maybe get another fuel cell setup.

Long time since I've made any updates. Got the trans back and put together but it didn't last. Still had issues. Ended up pulling it out and using a different guy to check it out. Long story short...he rebuilt the trans. We put a trans-king fmrp valve body in it and I got a new converter from freakshow performance. Once I got it back In the truck all was great....well.....for about a month. The trans developed a ticking noise while in rev and all forward gears. The noise would go away while In park/neautal. Turned out to be the converter. I sent it back to freakshow and he said one of the furnace brazes had come loose. He got me fixed up and now once again the truck is back on the road. Runs and drives great. Went with a little smaller stall speed with this converter over the rev Max one. New: Freakshow-2600 / Old:Revmax-3000. Also got the gears swapped out with the 3.42 while the trans was getting rebuilt once again and oh boy what a difference. Very happy with the way it turned out. Cruising around at 60mph at 2700ish rpm.
