turbo malibu drain location
turbo came in today put it on and started thinking about the drain, not necessarily too hot on yanking the motor to get at the pan to put in a bulk head fitting so i searched and found several people welding a -10 fitting into to their timing chain cover. i was wondering if there were any issues i might run into draining the turbo to the timing chain cover?

I did it on my regal. Havent got it hooked up yet. The second is showing the original location it had when i got it. The turbo was high like yours. The first pic is where we put a new one. 2 things if you decide to do it.
1. Get the non finished fitting like the first pic. Welding on a black finished fitting sucks cause the material burns.
2. if you put it in the location of the second pic. DO NOT tap the flat circular part right above my fitting. That is for clearence of the oil pump bolt. People have done that and it will block flow. Thats a truck balancer in the pic. I put an sfi one on. There is plenty of room.

As long as the pulley/belt wont interfere, and it doesnt get in the way of the water pump etc....there shouldnt be a problem.
And of course the obvious it needs to be a good gravity drain to that point etc.

Depending on the oil pan, I mounted mine right below the balancer. I have the GM Hot Rod pan, and an ATI vette style balancer-there was just enough room to drill/tap for a 1/2" x an 10 fitting. You need some careful meas. It could prob be done on the car, grease up the drill bit to catch the chips.
Here's an old mock up pic, been running 2 years now no problems.
I do have a Holley pan I might install to drop the engine down, if so I might do the front cover since the pan isn't as deep in front.
