Default Sooo about that 77/83 turbo.

I've seen several people say they're ordering, planning to use, or are currently installing the VS racing 77/83 turbo. Yet I haven't heard of anyone making dyno runs, track times, or street pulls. I looked on different forums, YouTube, not much going on. I saw one guy on this forum had a burgandy g body with this turbo and it was up and running but no numbers or track passes yet. So is there anyone who's actually getting some runs in with this turbo? I want to know how it does, what kind of power it's making, how well does it spool, all the stuff everyone wants to know about a turbo.

This and the 84/75 billet. I want 1 or the other to compare to my 7875 turbonetics

I dont believe theyre selling the 7783 any longer. I think they were having issues, mainly not selling enough. Its not on vs website any longer last i looked.

IMO if youre gonna go with an 83 exhaust side may as well get the 8883 anyway. Just my $0.02.

The on3 8475 looks like a beast, but the exhaust side is the same as the 7875 so if you have back pressure issues already its not gonna help. They do claim it puts out a ton of air

That sounds like a good comparison. I've considered the turbonetics 7875 but if I can getnaway with a cheaper turbo I'd rather do that.

Well damn you're right. I was just looking at the 77/83 on their web page a few weeks ago. So much for getting that one. You think that 88/83 is big for a 5.3? I could always run a 125 shot to help it spool. The vs racing "s480" clone looks nice, seems like a large ar though. 1.32 ar I believe for the 80mm?

No, it hasn't been on a dyno yet. There's a few things I want to take care of before it gets on one. That will most likely be closer to summer when that happens

Awesome man! It seems like a really nice turbo. I'm bummed out vs racing doesn't have the 77/83 on their website anymore. That was the turbo I really wanted. Guess I'll have to get the billet 78/75 or maybe the 88/83 with some nitrous to help spool. Your set up is very similar to mine. G body, sbe 5.3, cam, th400, megasquirt gold. Wish I could run e85 but it's hard to come by around here. Only 1 gas station in town sells it.

Yeah it's running very hard but I'm brand new to tuning so I'm sure it will get faster as I learn. Before I hit the dyno, I'm going to step my fuel system up, get a boost least controller and get a better driveshaft. I'm running a single aem 380 atm so I'm either going to buy another one for a dual setup or just get a magnafuel 4303. I'm leaning towards the magnafuel since I'm trying to keep everything rather simple. We'll see though

Same here! The only one within over an hour drive is one about 12 miles from my house. I run MS Gold as well and just use the Ethanol feedback so I can run any blend I wish. But this past weekend I filled a 55 gallon drum up and store it at home on a 4 wheel dolly from harbor freight, and ground the drum through the electric socket earth ground wire so there are no static electricity concerns. I have unlimited access to 55 gallon barrels so that was nice, but if you have to, brand new ones are only like $100.

I use a cherry picker with 2 ratchet straps to lift it out of the truck. Works great.

Grab a couple old slicks and you can literally push the entire barrel off the truck gate and let it fall on the slick. Sounds dodgy, but works great. Barrel seals around the rim hole and deflates slowly. Super easy to control.

Yeah that's a good idea. I should call soon so maybe I can get one before he runs out. If all else fails, billet 78/75 or 88/83 with some spray.

That's good man. I'm new to tuning also, should have mine ready to start here soon. I'm excited to get into MS and start learning. I sold the Malibu I was doing the swap in and picked up a '86 Monte Carlo. Everything that was going in the Malibu is going in the Monte. Yeah better driveshaft for sure if it's stock, I need to replace mine and either do a 8.5", 8.8" or 9". I ended up gettting a Bosch 044 pump to run external with a fuel cell. Turbo LS guys say they're trapping around 140 mph in the 1/4 so it seems to handle boost and HP well. Not a very expensive pump either. If I had the money I'd definitely get a baller pump, don't want to run out of fuel. If I build a bigger motor in the future, I'll probably upgrade pumps too.

See that seems inconvenient to drive so far just for e85. I want to be able to fill up at any gas station whenever I need to. That's a good idea to get a 55 gallon drum filled up. If I find I don't drive my car far places, I may switch up to e85 and get a drum. How much did it cost you to fill it up?

I just bought a 84/75 but I was looking at the 77/83 for a better ratio. I stumbled across the 84/75 so I went for it. If it wasnt cheap I would have went with the 77/83. I think the 88/83 might be laggy but I dont know??

Viren was out of stock of the billet 7875 last week. My buddy was gonna get 1 but had to get the cast 7875 instead.

The 7875 is so good if its not running out of steam id leave it alone. I was considering the 8883 but i also have a 6.0. I dont think IMO it would be all that laggy, it shouldnt be much more laggy than the 7783 with the same exhaust side size.

I would call viren and see what he recommends, a laggy turbo isnt an issue with the right cam, trans and convertor. The 8475 looks amazing, but again it is the same exhaust side as the 7875 which is where the restriction is most of the time. If the 7875 isnt running out of steam however the 8475 would be a nice upgrade

Edit: Sorry idk why i keep thinking you already have a 7875 and are looking to upgrade lol.

This is what I do on a single slick lol. The hard part was getting up the first step into my shed by myself. I about bust a nut.

Yeah I'm afraid it will be a little laggy but it is a 83 on the exhaust side soo maybe not terrible? Maybe someone running one on a 5.3 will chime in.

Hope he gets more billets in, if i get a 7875 I'd like to have billet if I can. Thats what I was thinking with the 88 having a 83 exhaust side. I could always run nitrous if need be to aid in spooling. Lol its all good, I just want to get as much info as I can before I order one so I dont have to upgrade.

I was looking t the 77/83 or the 78/75 billet, VS said the 78/75 would make more power, and spool quicker, so I got that one. Very pleased so far.
