Has anyone ever tried setting up a chain drive?

Kurt from W2W tried it on a customer car awhile ago and it didn't work.I don't know why it didn't work but maybe Kurt will see this and chime in with a good explanation.

That happened at a fun ford event with a pro 5.0 car. He was reving it in the pitts and the chain let go. Sent parts everywhere. Some people got hurt aswell.

heh, I had a chain drive on an old lathem supercharger on a 283 many years back. I remember watching that thing whipping around and thoughts of my fingers getting caught in a bicycle chain flashed in my memory everytime I seen it

Chain drives cause a lot of damage when they let go. Need to think about that when using one. Also they do not have a very long life, since they are not lubricated. Kurt from W2W would know best, hopefully he will chime in.

Thanks

We have tried this in the past with no good results.
Ronnie Duke had seen a Mustang set up in a book and wanted this on his car. We did this with the blower low on the drivers side, this kept the chain short which seemed a good thing. In the end the chain would get hot during the burnout which would throw all the oil off it. By the time you staged for a run the chain would start to bind up and would break before the end. With a longer chain the deal may last longer but it will never be very reliable. The chain is just traveling too many feet per second to live.
