I was Just wondering if we could use Gapless rings with a FI car and why? Seems like it would negate the question of what to gap your rings at. What do you guys think?

I did use a gapless ring for my 2nd on my first go around with the build. I didn't like how they seated, and wasn't particularly comfortable with them in a boosted/nitrous application.

After discoving my block/head was leaking, I pulled everything apart, and the 2nd time that I put the motor together I chose gapped 1st and 2nd rings. I don't run a real big gap 24-19 (or something like that) and the motor has help up very well under the regular 15-16 lbs of boost (4000 miles and counting).

For the amount of heat that a high output forced induction car will generate, I didn't feel comfortable with how the gapless ring was intended to expand so I chose not to use them the second time.

Gapless 2nd rings are a gimmick. You actually want more gap on the second ring then you do on the first ring. With a gapless second ringh, the gasses are coming through the gap in the top ring, sealing on the second ring, and then unloading the top ring. So now your top ring is not your compression ring sort of. The second ring is really just another oil ring.

I tried the gapless 2nd ring set after falling for the hype. I pulled the motor 500 miles after installing them because of odd issues with oil control.
Using conventional rings with .025 and .028 gaps now with great results.
Would never use gapless again .
Just my .02

I have run gapless seconds with poor results. Have a LS together now with gapless top ring and forced induction. Initial results are very good. Crankcase vac is holding above 1500hp, I could never keep the vac up on LS with traditional ring pack. The traditional Hellfire rings always worked and lived well, just blow-by was exceeding the drysump pumps ability to scavenge. The Australian engine had 2 inches neg vac in pan at 1500 hp with iron block(Hellfire package). My newest engine has 15+ inches in pan at 1500+ hp with factory iron block. Still need some time to inspect after some passes down the track and some more engine dyno runs, but looks very promising.

The engine is a 4X4 with hellfire top ring in a iron block. The best et is still 7.48 at 18X.
