Default Need info on Holset turbos...

I have 2 holset turbos, one of which has been rebuilt, and I am curious about using them on a street motor. The problem is I am having trouble finding out ANY info on them. I only plan on running a single setup, and I just want to know what the potential is of them, or at least a model number. They are off of a 903 c.i. Cummins V8 deisel 'Big Cam' engine. Don't ask what the engine came from. Can anybody help me?

Send me some pictures of it. The 903 cummins had several different models of the Holset's on it. With pictures I can tell you if its worth keeping it or not.

I'll try to do that tomorrow. I'm wondering now this would work on a LS1-based engine. Kinda big, I'm sure, but it's there. Of course i do have a few BBC's that might respond to a turbo quite nicely. Would any of the casting numbers help?

It was a land vehicle. About 750 HP, give or take. I have a crank and a cam from one also, I think they should make pretty cool looking bar stools. Just don't tip them over.

BTW, turbo diesels rule ......more technology in them then any gasoline car when it comes to blowing boost.

Then my next two guesses would be an Ore Truck, and an earth moving "pan".

After that, I'd have to say a very large track hoe.

I'll check it out. I don't remember if it had a tag on it. I do know that the compressor housing did not use V-band flanges for inlet or outlet. I'm pretty sure the turbine side used one for the downpipe. There is no wastegate.

Ahhhh, what about aircraft engines?

Though Turbo Diesels do rule, I'll agree with that

The 903 IS pretty sweet. I love hearing them spool up on the dyno. The valvetrain can be a royal bitch to adjust, though.

A guy we drag race with has been playing with turbo deisels for tractor pulling. He said that a lot oif the guys he deals with have been converting over to alcohol, and he has been building them billet heads to use for the conversion. Compound turbos on an alky motor kick some serious ***.

Yes, alky is the new wave. Takes less boost to make the power, but the tuning is a real trick. But one bad thing is no smoke....I love the smoke...lol.

SB, how about turbine tractors...lol. Mix the both together....hehe.

BTW, if you think the drag racers are top secret on turbo specs....you haven't talked or sold to the turbo tractor pullers...lol. Heck this weekend one of them popped the hood open, I went to look at the setup, (which it was only a single Holset turbo setup for smaller weight class) but boy he didn't like me and my buddy looking. He quickly came over and shut the hood on us....lol. Alot of my customers specs we keep confidential about the internals, but boy, the pullers take it to another level...lol

Why am I not surprised? I know even at local drag races, some guys get real pissy when you snap a picture, I'd hate to think if you had done that to this guy.
