Master of the street
This weekend I ran my cousin who runs in the low 8's (the 8th mile, for you guys who can't figure that out ) with his hopped-up '71 Camaro. We are cool and I'd already beat him with my ET Streets. (That's the run BEFORE I broke my rear, but I could hear it breaking during the run). So I asked him to run me with my street radials after I put the new rear in.
During my "break the R&P" run, he was running slicks. With my ET Streets, I still beat him off the line and only 1/2 and 3/4 throttled it down the rest of the 1/4-mile when I saw I was ahead.
So, I asked him to try it with my street tires (Nitto 555 Extremes... not the drag radials). I literally had to take off the line at a crawl, then about 1/2 throttle thru first, about 3/4 throttle halfway thru second, and then I'd slowly press it to the floor... it STILL fishtailed, but I got it going full-bore before I got out of 2nd, and by the time I got a little shy of the 8th -mile mark I passed him like I'd pass a car on the highway.
I made it thru the 1/4 at about 121 or 122 MPH! Even though I literally CRUISED off the line and didn't WOT it until mid-way thru 2nd gear, I estimate, based on my MPH that I ran a mid 11!
My cousins, uncle and brother-in-law agreed I could overpower just abut any N/A street car around there with just my street tires. (My cousin with the Camaro said I passed him so fast, it looked like he was going the opposite way.)
There is a Supercharged Ford Lightening truck that they said is killing Camaros and Trans Ams arond there that has had some head/cam work AND is spraying Nitrous. I was supposed to run him, but I broke my rear Wed night, and we couldn't find the guy Sunday after we installed the new Ring and Pinion.
I sure wanted to put him in his place before I left. Oh, well... maybe next time.
With a Stage II setup, you will take just about ANYTHING that is out there except someone that has to trailer their car to the track. Street cars can forget it!

I'd be on one of those kits like stink on Ford if I wasn't scared of torching the 4L60.

Unfortunately, the drivetrain is not up to nearly 500 HP, eh?

ooh ok, low 8's in the 1/4 right? ya for an oler car that was probably a 100mph 1/4 mile trap.
you may be able to beat lots of cars.. but remember.. there are lots of other ls1's out there than can and do mod their cars also.. so watch out! hehe

I think he means 1/8 mile, which is about a mid to high 12s (depending on traction) there is no way a 8 second 1/4 mile car is gonna get beat by a 10 second car

It's measured off and has been since I was a kid.
I thought only us hicks were dumb.

Lighten up everybody! Start the NEW YEAR off right.
The man is just happy to have a really fast street car, as we all would be.
Way to go Mike! Just watch out, if word gets out about your car somebody might bring in a ringer.

Re: Master of the street
I hear ya!! Everyones car is faster than mine but this is the fastest car i have ever owned or driven. Tonight getting on the interstate I punched it and it got sideways at 60mph on Nitto Drs. Thinking it was a fluke I slowed to 40 on the interstate...punched it and again it was sideways in 3rd at 55! i know all you guys do this at will but it was a first for me and damn it felt good. The turbotech kit is finally starting to feel "respectable" when driving it. Once I get rid of this hooker aerochamber
put on a dynomax ultraflo and get my a/f tuned via dyno it will be a real deal on the street. Course lots of YOU guys will beat me down but theres still plenty of *** left to be kicked
I can't imagine what it must be like to drive most of the fast cars I see on hear....but according to Blackls1T/A...it feels pretty good!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Master of the street
Hi cablebandit
I think you should just turn up the boost a little.
You should be able to do it relatively easy compared to us blower guys.
Your car doesn't sound too bad. Hell I can't do that on the highway. I could probably do a 1/4 mile burnout from a stop though.
================= <---wheel hop problems.

I wont go over 9psi...and thats on 100 octane. I try to emulate Harlans setup as he is making stupid HP and has had no trouble out of the stock block. My original goal was 450 to the wheels and I'll be happy if I dyno and make that thru the muffler. The turbo tech is a great kit that gets little credit. I'd love to see what some of these guys could do with this kit. Best part is non LS1 types look under the hood and think I just have a cold air intake kit installed....kinda funny.

Re: Master of the street
Yeah it looks like a nice kit from the pictures I've seen.
How much boost are you currently running? I've read some of your post in the past but its hard to keep up with everyones setup.
Where can you buy them from these days? Do you have to go straight to TurboTech or is there a vendor that sells them?
Johnnie

From the posts I've seen, a Turbo's torque is pretty much there like... NOW...
With massive amounts of torque immediately there, it's gotta break 'em loose pretty quickly.
I'm sure your car is fun to drive. You've got NOTHING to be sad about.
