Default 6.0 L truck heads worth it on a FI application?

On a turbo application, with an otherwise stock motor, are the 6.0 litre heads worth anything? I plan to run 3 psi of boost during everyday driving and 7 psi at the track. Would the decreased compression ratio be worth my time?

Another factor is the porting. If I get new heads I will have them ported. I found a shop that has a really good head guy, but he has nevber touched a set of LS1 cylinder heads. Do conventional porting techniques apply to LS1 heads? Does the porting process change for a forced iduction application?

Thanks! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

do not go with a porter that hasnt done LS1 heads before. ARE has a set of ported blower specific 6L heads that work very very well.
Check them out

If im not mistaking you should get substantly more horsepower on the same amount of boost if you go with a ported 6L head Thats pretty much the same setup i plan on running.
Let me ask you though how do you plan on changing the boost, if your going to use a boost controler which one are you running.

Neat, with the 6.0 heads you should be able to run 7psi EASILY on pump gas...with no worries.

A friend and I embarked on this project about a week ago. The turbo's (Garret T3's, don't tell me they aren't big enough, I don't want to know!) are hung off the stock manifolds (hope they hold up!) and we are working on wastegate mounting. Next is the electronic boost controller. Brand hadn't really crossed my mind yet, I just assumed some rice brand of BC would work fine for 2 Garret T3's. I am a bit worried about making the 2 seperate wastegates perform identically, but it comes with the twin territory.

So you guys think th 6.0L heads would be worthwhile investment. What if they are not ported, still worth my time/$$$? Chris ARE 360, I have almost depleted the go fast budget and a set of heads from ARE, all though really cool, are a financial impossibility. This turbo project has had some serious unforseen expenses. I planned for that, but not to the extent that it has gone. Scavenger pump, oil cooler, another fuggen K-member (makes THREE!!), etc... I am still going to need a clutch and a rear.

The plan is to take all this **** out at once, so I don't need to rip into the car again. I think I can bludgeon the budget maker (read: wife) over the head and sneak enough to get some 6.0L heads, but the ARE's are probably outta the question.

Agian, you guys think the 6.0L heads are worth it, even if they are not ported? I would assume the biggest gain from them is the reduced CR, not the flow, right?

Thanks again!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

i say get the 6.0 heads for the flow AND the reduced compression. I also thought about using stock manifolds for a twins setup...good luck and let us know how it turns out

6.0 heads wont drop the CR a hole lot, youll have to get thicker gaskets if you realy want to get it down

I was told you could get the 5.7l's down just as low with those gaskets..
