so I figured I'd try this 60-1 hybrid, .70 compressor and .96 exhaust, I know I'm using it at 90+% all the time but at 5-6lbs I'm still seeing a pressure drop top end, compression on the engine is great and no air leaks anywhere... even w/ no air filter around 4800-5200 it starts to loose boost and goes down to about 4lbs by 5600, I'm seeing 5-6psi @ 2800-3000rpm so its got amazing tq and the power/tq is pretty much a flatline but I should have more top end power and I think its cause of this small *** turbo... does anybody else have real world experience w/the 60-1 on an ls1?, somehow this ls1 flows more than I think....
and also, is a t70 the same exact outside dimensions?

Is this a front mount turbo? I had a 60-1 on my STS for a while, and power would fall off around the same rpm. It was just choking. Not sure that helps too much, but I thought I'd at least try!!

A couple of things to check. One, is the compressor mapping. If the motor is wanting/demanding more air than the turbo can provide it can cause issues similar to those you are describing. Two, a faulty wastegate can also cause issues like those you are describing. I have run 60-1's on 302s but never have on anything larger. I would find a compressor map for your turbo and review it carefully or get someone to help you with it. You are going to need to factor in your c.i.d. and rpm to get an accurate picture. Hope this helps.

the wastegate was something I thought of, I'm refrencing it off manifold pressure not a controller, I may try the vac line at the turbo so I get 5psi then use a boost controller to get to 6, that is the ONLY other thing to try(wg is tial 44mm), but from the map used when I first purchased this it was suposed to be just right and spool instantly but not handle more than 8psi, I dont think it can even handle 6 and I think the ls1 demands more air than is realized

From what you are describing slim I am going to go out on a limb and say that at lower RPM's it is pulling just fine but in the upper RPM range it is way out of it's efficiency range and just cannot support the CFM the motor is demanding. I use Harry Hruska's (Precision Turbo) 60-1 turbos on most all small CID motors that I do such as the 3800/4L60E combo that is going in a customers 48 Chevy Fleetline. They are great for that type of combo and even a mild 302 that isn't seeing more than 5800-RPM. I believe that it would even be pretty decent on a moderate 5.3 or 4.8. I personally believe (with the help of my meds. ) that you would probably be happier with either a PT-66 up to a PT-70. It would provide you with plenty of low and mid range without running out of steam up top on a mildly modded LS1. Hope this helps.

The max. flow on a T61 is about ~62lb./min. The issue with the 60-1 might be synonymous with the compressor housing size. A 346c.i. motor will demand ~50-54lb./min. at 6500rpm w/ 5-6psi and ~62-65lb./min. at 9psi. So, you might be at it's limit with that turbo.

Yeah, a lot of the 2.4 and 2.3L DSMers are reviving the 60-1. Great for us, but thats a bit small for your app the 60-1 is not really as efficient and modern as other stuff available either. The Tial is capable of controlling things just fine. So I agree, its just a small turbo being outrun. I bet a with a larger one you wont even notice the increased boost threshold either, being that more modern stuff will flow more and hit boost just as fast.

Assassin: I just checked, Compressor is fine but turbine is too big for me.
