But it necks down. Is that really a 5" downpipe? I personally don't think so.

That is just one of them. I can't find a pic on Jason's site for the one that doesn't but he can build em anyway that is needed.

There are gains to be had with a larger downpipe that necks down. It reduces backpressure at the turbine outlet, and helps with velocity.

I was gonna splain that too but I have already been in one pizzing match today and didn't want to take the chance on getting into another being that I don't know the gent. In addition to the added volume nearest the turbine the taper can also create a scavenging effect that helps with the velocity of the exhaust gasses leaving the turbine and thus as you stated helping backpresssure. Thank you for pointing that out as I wanted to make sure I didn't ruffle anymore feathers today.

I woundn't start a pissing match about this stuff. There's so much to turbo technology and its so wide open in terms of turbo specs and combo's its not even worthwhile. However, IMO, the only reason to neck down anything in your exhaust is to cater to some space/size issue.

The 90* elbow is the largest restriction for that pipe layout, having the reduction after the elbow is what's really key.
