Sean

I'm sure you are wondering why no one answered any of your questions???? Well the best explanation is that there is to many answers. You have to pick your goals. Get with a damn good shop that knows turbos, make your choice. Read trends, pick and choose.

A lot of really good shop on this site, most of which are more than capable of building your car to what you want.

Mahle, Diamond, or JE would be my choice (in that order). I'd go for between 8 and 8.5:1, so you'd probably want like ~32cc's of dish on your piston with a 408. W2W carries Mahle for sure. TSP carries Diamond and probably Mahle as well. JE is everywhere.

Again, what are your goals? 700, 1000 rwhp. Since turbo, twins, how big, 61, 67, 78, 104MM ???

Get your goals. IMO, call Wheel-2-wheel (W2W) - one our sponsors. Talk to Kevin Hayes. He will do you right. Tell him what you are planning.

Pistons? I'm going to be running Wiseco. Our shop owner is going to run Diamond. Just get a good turbo piston. Now for the dish. What compression are you going to want to run? You can go from 8.0, 8.5, 9.0, to what ever. I'm going to run -22cc dish, the shop's car -15.

See just a lot choices. Crank - what kind? what is it's hp range? Shop around. Call Kevin.

If that is going in a RX-7. I'd keep the compression low just to avoid any problems... You don't need any real down-low power to get that RX-7 paperweight moving! You can focus on high boost then... So I would make compression like ~8.1 or so. I've heard Mahle, JE, Diamond are all great pistons.. I've seen more people go to Mahle for some serious setups with lots of boost lately.]

Good luck, post pics.

Im making the bore (since I don't know it) 4.030" since this with a 4.00" stroke = 408 cubic inches. With 72 CC heads, a -12cc dished piston, and an assumed compressed gasket thickness of .055" (GM gasket) ....

You get 9.75:1

Go with the -32cc pistons and put the compression down and run a ton of boost on pump gas. Also go LS2 block and save that 100lbs.

Yeah, that same setup I described with stang's -32cc pistons yields 8.24:1...

And +1 for the LS2 block.

http://www.csgnetwork.com/compcalc.html

And the pistons in these motors usually are ABOVE the deck about .005-.01 IIRC.

wouldnt that be kinda getting thin, on the pistons with -32cc dish risking when you detonate?

also 9:75:1 seems kinda on the high side for that set up....hmmmm gasskits are 2003 + mls gaskit...

If it's going into a 1990 RX7 hold off on the stroker. I have a buddy with a procharged 346 into a slightly heavier 1993 RX7 and it blows the tires off at virtually any speed. For 700 RWHP build a stock cube motor with a T76-GTS and be done with it.
