Default Fabbed aluminum elbow noise? ..ringing

I got my car idling tonight and noticed the intake elbow I made rings (yes like a bell). you'd never know the car has a turbo by listening to it, even reving to 3k rpms. Except for the damn air howling or ring in the intake which is pretty loud and would lead someone to believe somethings up. If you put your hand on the alum elbow it stops. So its a definite "ring".
Does anyone elses do this or did I design it all messed up?
Any ideas to stop the damn noise? A friend recomended coating it w/ something, but Ive yet to polish it and want the polished look.

You could bolt or epoxy or weld on a small piece of denser metal to change its resonant frequency. Maybe a thin strip on each side? Coating shouldn't help the ring. Even dimpling the metal might work.

Adding a thin post on the inside to tie the 2 sides together would probably work fine and be invisible.

The piece looks nice!

can you find exactly where the ring is coming from?
maybe its not exactly the elbow but something attached.

theres nothing attached to it but the regulator and TB. I have to weld somthing on to hold the throttle cable yet. I was thinking of bolting a rubber plug on the bottom side or something? maybe once I get the throttle cable on it will go away?

Mine from Aarons elbows ringed bad , then i found a vacuum leak where it bolts to the intake. The gasket wasnt enough, so i used silicon and it went away. Maybe that is your problem. Something to check anyways.

Is there a gasket or just silicone between the elbow and the intake? does it get worse the more Rpm's you have or does it stay the same?
A couple of things, if you use material .063 or thinner the material itself is moving around slightly, resonating. (like DeltaT mentioned) or the regulator on the rear is helping the noise problem. Fuel pulse and air pulse with a big magaphone helping the noise to eco.

wrap a good tight layer of duct tape on it... like a 1" wide strip, make it really tight, that will tell you if its truely the elbow ringing or something else..

HA HA, Duct tape can fix anything!!!!!

I agree with what was posted above. Check for a leak, and if it still is there check for the material moving on you. You can probably feel it on the elbow. If it is, adding something to stiffen it would most likely eliminate the noise or change the frequency and hopefully would not be noticeable. Good Luck.
