Chris, I assume you will be running ARP MAIN STUDS on your new forged shortblock you are building? If not, I would plan on doing so, as several of the professional tuners/engine builders I have spoken with over the past week, about building my forged LS6 shortblock, are telling me to definitely use the ARP MAIN STUDS on a boosted motor.

Knowing you, I am sure you are planning to do this on your new motor!

In regards to your poll Stock bolts here at 614 rwhp and 10psi...on my stock LS6 Motor. But you knew that already my friend!

As good as the main bolt configuration is, why would it matter? I would think the main cap itself would be the weaker part. Has someome actually had a main bolt failure? What gives out and how?

Actually I've never heard of anyone having a main bolt failure...I think in general its more piece of mind and is stronger to run ARP's.

I know of a few turbo motors making up to 750 rwhp on stock main bolts.

I haven't known of a main cap failer or even a bolt for that mater, but I do know of taking one apart and having the mains litterally fall out I belive this to be the stock bolts streching and therefore letting the caps reside loosely in place as the 10mm bolts that go in the sides of the mains do very little to help this situation, but I made 575 on the stockers and when I rebuilt it I used the main studs. Wasn't that big of an expence when compared to the money I had in everything else etc...

Just relaying what a few top tuners told me the owner of FLP being one of them. Sounds like it may be a good piece of mind type thing that only costs an extra $120.00 or so!

On dsm cars you usually are told to line hone or mabye its line bore the mains when you install arp and there have been problems in the dsm cars with arp main studs so I kept the stock bolts in my dsm engine.
Do you have to do anything special in the ls1 or 6.0 engines to install the arp main studs. If its just drop them in then guess maybe get them for extra piece of mind.

It stands for diamond star motors and basically means the talon, eclipse ,laser series of cars.

I love them they are great fun and am building a very high hp 97 talon all wheel drive turbo up currently.

Interesting thought...these days noone even thinks of running stock main bolts...but I've seen alot of stuff making decent hp with them. Another way to save some money on a shortblock putting down reasonable #'s.
