Default ATI Cooling Improvement (Pics)

I did the dlandsvZ28 mod. If you have to run the ATI shroud for clearance reasons, this is one way to improve things (before & after pics):

Do you just wire the smaller fan into the same wires as the larger fan?

Did it help or not? I have a 9 inch Spal going in tomorrow, so I am interested.

I din't know other ATI shrouds only housed one fan... hmmm. On my GTO kit I have a larger and a smaller fan just like what you modded yours to look like. Either way I bet thats a huge improvement!

What's the P/N# for the fan you used and where did you get it ? (PM me if it's not a site sponsor...)

I've been thinking about doing this for a while, and with hot summer days coming up again soon...

I already swapped to a SLP (LT1) radiator and removed the A/C stuff so it should run cooler, but I bet that 9" fan helps a lot with that "dead" side of the radiator the ATI shroud blocks.

No fitment issues with the blower/inlet hat, right ?

This is what I've done...uses some of the best fans available...should keep my temps down just fine along with the SLP (LT1) radiator...

It wires right in to the stock wires for the stock duals.

Yes. Before I really couldn't use the a/c. The big improvement I saw is now I'm able to run my a/c w/out overheating, unless it's stop & go traffic on a real hot day. Last Thursday it was in the low/mid 80's and I drove 55 miles on the highway to Boston with the a/c on full blast and the temps running 198-202. Now when I got into the city and hit stop & go traffic over the course of 15-20 minutes the temp crept up to 220 and I had to shut off the a/c, and the temp came back down. But it seems like now I can run the a/c as long as the car is moving at least 40mph or so. On a cooler night however (70's), I was actually able to idle my car for 20 minutes w/ the a/c on full blast and the temp went to 214 and held. So it's not perfect, but it's a heck of a lot better than not being able to run the a/c at all because my car is a daily driver.

I opted for the lowest profile 9" Spal because I was worried about clearance issues. The larger profile pullers may flow more than this one. This one is PN: 30100392. Also I have the straight blade, and I think the curved blade (30100452) puller may also flow a little more. No fitment issues for me with that fan, but don't go by that, because I have a very customized setup and clearance will be a little different for everyone...but if anything is gonna fit, I think it will be that low profile 9". Good luck!

Would it be worth it if i don't have a/c?

If you are running warmer than you want to be, and if you've already put in a 160 stat and adjusted when your fan comes on, then I would say it is definitely worth it. The fan is $80 or so and a metal shop cut my shroud for $35 so it's pretty cheap insurance if your running warm now, drive in hot climates, or in traffic.

Isn't there a set of dual 11" Spal pushers that fit on the front of the radiator? Might be a different brand but I remember that there is a set that fits perfectly in front with little to no modification.

There might be, but you'd still want to cut a hole in the shroud on the back side IMHO...blocking off half the radiator like the unmodified ATI shroud does really hurts IMO.

I found out today that if you are running the SDCE tensioner and try to run the Spal 9 inch high performance puller fan (30102061) it will not fit. The fan motor hits the top bolt on the SDCE tensioner. The fan is too thick @ 3.7 inches. So now I have the fan listed for sale.

This is my only concern when I do my ATI Procharger. I want to keep my ac but hate having to worry about it over heating if I do.
