turbo's have both an exhaust housing and compressor housing....your exhaust gas is routed threw the exhaust housing and spins a turbine, which shares a common shaft with a turbine in the compressor housing of the system...the compressor housing creates the boost...disadvantages are lag..advantages are no strain on the motor because it uses your exhaust and is not something else for your motor to spin.
superchargers are belt driven and brake down in to several different types.
twin screw superchagers (also called positive displacement superchargers)..like the magnachargers, eaton, kenne bell.....use the engines belt to spin them, very good for low end tq because of no spool time.
centrifical superchargers.....basically just the compressor half of the turbo but instead of an exhaust housing they have a pully....also create strain on the motor to turn.
i know i did not cover everything this is just what i know......
