Default How much boost/hp on SI motor?

I am in the process of planning out my motor build. I am wanting to build an LSx based motor suitable for boost. I would like to get the turbo kit first and run it on my stock internal LS1 while I am building my motor. I think this would keep me satisfied and allot me more time to build a motor the right way. I was looking at GMR's twin turbo kit as well as a twin turbo kit from Turbo Zone. How much boost/hp could I get on stock internals and stock fuel system? Is this a bad idea? Thanks

With a intercooler you can run 9psi on a good tune with the correct fuel

What would the correct fuel be for 9 PSI? Some sort of race fuel, or could it be tuned for say, Kalifornia's 91 octane(bad) gas?

I ment fuel volume and air / fuel ratio, you also want to make sure your not getting pressure drop because even if you have the right afrs and your pressure is too low you will have lots of problems.

So with an A2W intercooler I could run 9psi? I am still on stock injectors, pump, etc etc. Will I not run into any problems leaning out?

A2W intercoolers are not great for cruising around town

Really? Why not? I could've sworn I read somewhere they were great at the track and some people choose to run them on the street with great success. BTW Boostaholic, check your PM

Because the water gets hot and it becomes less efficiant than a A2A, most A2W setups pump the water up to a standalone radiator to cool it down but unless you plan on putting ice in it at the track going for all out times in your car you probably don't need one. I have not even really considered it for my car yet.

It's no different than the coolant in your car, yeah, you can run it at the track with ice water in it, but it soon heats up, and will lose efficiency. Listen to boostaholic, he's the man when it comes to this. I would run 8-9# with meth.

Off topic question, but how do you all think a TSP/LME/HPE built 408 would work out? I would have them upgrade the pistons and connecting rods, but other than that I think I'd be set. I know it is not a W2W motor by any means, but would I be safe reaching for 800+/800+ on it? I would much rather spend the $2k I save on some heads and fuel system components.

I have not heard of anyone breaking their shortblock that was not a problem with oil starvation or tuning related on this forum, not to say it can't happen but long as you get a descent forged crank and rods then get some boost friendly rings and pistons 800 is a walk in the park

Well I have been told conflicting things about Diamond forged pistons and Total Seal chrome topped rings. Some have said go with them, others have said they heard bad things about them. What pistons/rings would you all reccomend? I know TSP uses Mahle forged pistons in their shortblock but you can upgrade to Diamond. Also, they use Scat rods but you can upgrade to Callies. Are both of these upgrades worth it? The crank is an Eagle forged crank so I'm sure I'll be fine with that. I wish HPE had their LS1 section up and running so I could browse their options.
