Default Something old, something new...turbo swap..

Well I decided the ol GT42 wasn't cutting it for me.

Decided to throw in the MP T70 that I had sitting here for a few months for ***** and giggles till I get me a better turbo than either of these two. But it made for a fun project for today. Now all I need is a filter and i'm all good to go.

Hope it is a fun lil turbo to mess around on the street with, with a .96 a/r spool should be plenty fast. Better than my ol heavy GT42's wheels and a 1.01 a/r.

On start up, the lil 70's impeller is MOVIN

Now I can fit a good sized air filter in there, up to 12 inch long with no problems, but all I could find was a 9 inch long so I ordered that.

My MPt70 hits full spool before my converter ~3600 but I am only running 7-8lbs. You can hear it at ~1700rpms. (locked up in 4th gear - 2.73s)

I'm going out right now to go find a filter so I can mess around today with the lil turbo....I have a AEM dry filter on order. Damn oily filters are messing up my IC pipes.

SScam68, frank if the lil MP does good i'll sell the GT42, already have offers in my PM box

Chris, it was hitting full boost around 4700 with the GT42.

Carl, the outlet on the GT42 is 3.5 the MPT70 is 2.5

Charlie, damn I typed that out wrong It was all day job and I was tired

As for my next turbo, I want to go with a S76 or S78, but I don't know...i'll have to PM you on why i'm reluctant to go with one of those.

Hope this lil one spools fast and puts the power down quicker, i'm only going for 10's.

J

Chris, don't know why it spooled so slow, I tried everything in the book, lower timing, less fuel(both worked very well) I've about tuned the car to death, but it just wouldn't boost very fast. I'm use to the procharger, smash the gas and it was an instant smoke show followed by brutal acceleration. The GT42 wasn't too much fun from a dig, a highway roll it was a blast tho.

Just a lil experimenting since I have both turbo's sitting around.

The turbokart looks fun to make, think i'll go and scrounge up a used turbo from the wrecking yard...just for fun

Hey its here and if the MP T70 works out, i'll keep you at the front of the line so I don't have to ship this thing anywhere....damn UPS and their hate for turbo's

Nope Kev hasn't sent the cam yet, maybe he wants a depo$$it to expedite the shipping?

Sorry for missing out on the weigh in yesterday, this was an all day thing. One of our jacks broke when I started working on the car so I had to go out and buy another one....3.5 ton, dual piston BEAST of a jack, that one will stay in the garage Got to love adding tools to the collection when doing small projects like this.

Don't sweat it man.

Speaking of turbos, it looks like I'll be shipping the Incon kit out today.

If you're free in the afternoon I'd like to stop by and check it out. About 6-7ish, I'll give you a ring.
