Default Help with H/C package

I have a 98 SS all stock interanals. I have a Vortech SC making 6psi an 475rwhp. I am very serious about getting to 600+rwhp. I think I will need a forged bottom end to achieve this? I now I will need a good H/C setup. This is a weekend/sunny day only car. What would you guys say is the best setup for the results I hope to achieve? I need you guys to be as detailed as possible about the cam degrees, timing advance groung into the cam, lobe seperation, valve springs, etc etc etc. I am not very wise when it comes to these kinds of matters. The reason I need to have as many details as possible is that I am considering buying some of these parts used in the for sale fourm as they pop up. Thanks guys for any help you can provide. My main goal after this is complete, besides 600+, is to beat my buddies KB 04 Cobra 604 rwhp

What trim of blower are you running currently?

And 600+rwhp on a stock bottom end???

Can it be done?.........Sure.

Will it last for a one trip around the neighborhood?.........Maybe.

Can it handle race after race against your buddy's 03?........Hell no.

My advice would be to race dynoslips only. Go for the forged bottom.

You will not need H/C to get 600rwhp with a forged bottom end. Just swap pulleys and add more boost. Dip into the H/C setup when you try to eek the very last out of the combo.

It is a J-trim blower. Ok what you are saying is that the bottom end is more important at this point than the H/C swap? That being the case what pieces do you guys recommend? I want to do this right so tell me some of the things that have worked for you guys. Thanks

Do you mean a G-trim? That's the common F-body kit, the V-9 G-trim.

If so, I think the blower is too small to get you to 600rwhp. It's rated to 575HP at the crank. I think you'd have to upgrade to a T-trim V-1 blower to make that power.

You should buy a low compression Lunati "balanced rotation assembly." If you try to buy the crank, rod/pistons seperately while bargain shopping you'll still have to get them balanced and by the time you cost it out you could've just bought the Lunati set-up and called it a day.

I'd look into doing the bottom end and then look at buying a bigger head unit. (blower)

Can you give me some info on where to find the Lunati setup? Vortech told me that head unit was capable of 25psi that plus H/C an new bottom end would not net 600+ at the tires? I have 475 with just 6psi. I just don't understand?

Here's a link to a page on Thunder Racing's website. ===>
This is all the LS1 Lunati rotating packages. Thunder has great customer service. It might be a good idea to buy an assembled shortblock/longblock and go from there.

Do the bottom end.

You can always add a set of Escalade (6.0) heads. You can get a used set for $100-$300 and you don't even need to port them. They have port characteristics similar to the LS6 head except that they have large combustion chambers.

If you want to just do the heads now and install them yourself (might as well do a blower cam during install) you could be up and running again with about 1/2 point less compression and that'll let you turn up the boost a bit.

You're still on borrowed time with your '98 shortblock. You're gonna have to pay up sooner or later. If you turn up the boost with heads/etc it will be sooner still.

Here's the chart of all the Vortech head unit specs. Looks like they've uprated the V-9 now to 600 from the old chart's 575.
