Default Sts Owners Help

I just finished getting my sts turbo put on and its making really low numbers on the dyno. My car is a 2001 TA ws6 with m6. The following mods are sts turbo with a t76, methanol injection, racetronix fuel pump, 42lb svo injectors, kb boost a pump, gutted cats. Its only making 440 rwhp at 9psi tuned at the dyno. The turbo isnt fully spooled until 5500rpms. I realize the turbo is kind of too big but the dyno results were disappointing. Im switching to a t67. Why is it so damn weak

Do you have any graphs? All that you said is that you dynod it and you didnt tune it? what a/r turbine housing did you have on the 76?

What made you get the 76?
It may spool later than usual, but not that late and not make that little power.

dont get hung up on dyno #s, my sts setup only showed 360 rwhp on dyno, then i went to the track and cut my time down by 2tenths, i raced my buddy 420 rwhp car and stayed nose to nose, see what your car does on the street and track before you junk the setup, i agree the 76 is big and will spool later, i know your frustration i felt the same way. but dont get hung up on dyno #s it is just a tuning tool your real data comes from the track or street. also wrap your exaust from headers back to turbo that may help your spool up. just keep digging it took me almost a month to work out the kinks and get the system running good. just dont give up.

I have a 60-1 that made 520/580 at 8.5 psi If your serious on getting a 67 then you can buy mine and have it changed. Save some money at the same time PM me.

Full spool by 5500 rpm?! In what, 1st gear?! Something isn't right man... You definitely aren't loading the turbo correctly or something else is wrong. I can only imagine my car on a dyno with the T70 in 4th gear, that thing would spool up quick. What was your fuel pressure like?

i had this SAME kinda issue with my TTi twin kit for the vette. turns out i was leaking boost out my worthless shitty BOV's that were included. i barely hit 15 lbs of boost at the TOP of 4th. once i fixed the bov's i was able to hit in excess of 21 lbs of boost well before 5k in 4th.

SO if you have some kind of BOV, the spring could be weak, or you could have a poor boost refrence, OR just a random leak somewhere. Its very hard to hear it over your engine screaming and it sucking in massive amounts of air. the leak just sounds like part of the overall way it should sound. very hard to hear if you arent a seasoned turbo pro. even when i had it on the dyno at a speed shop, no one knew that was the prob.

gl with the trouble shooting!

No the car was tuned and it made 440 rwhp. The housing is a .81 ar. It will chirp the 275 tires at 55 barly. That is in first it takes to 5500 rpm to fully spool. I don't know how much this will affect it but the shop forgot to put on the bov.

WOW... your AF is WAY High.. you need to get it down to 11.0 -11.5

You went with a 76 on a stock block with 42# injectors? Somebody steered you wrong brother. With a 67 I max out my 42's.... And unless you have done allot to limit the heat loss a 76 is way too much for a Stock LS1

How do you still have a motor after running that lean.. You're AFR should be around 11:1.. No wonder you arent making any power. Chanches are you probably popped a few ringlands on #7 and #8 as well..
I would rethink your tuning startegies..

Would a t 60 be good. Also they forgot the bov, how bad is that and how much does that affect performance.

If the rings pop do I have to tear the motor apart and how can you tell. The afr is about 14.5 at idle and goes down to about 12.5 when they dynoed it.

Is there a block off plate for the BOV? If not can you say boost leak? That might explain your lean A/F. With the mods you got i would say do 67. I dont think I would use that shop that your at any more though. Hopefully it turns out alright

I am taking it to a different shop to get it tuned right on wednesday. The shop I took it to was in south dakota called dyno tune, never having them do anything again.

A good way to check the rings is to do a compression test. Yes you do have to tear the engine apart to put new rings in.

Do a compression test on the back two cylinders.. It will tell you right away... If you did, its time for a new boost motor
12.5:1 is still too lean.. 11.5 should be the leanest you want to go..
