603 hp T/A need better track times
i have a 2000 trans am with a sts turboed (rear mount 76) iron block 408 6 spd running 14 pounds of boost through an intercooler with meth ingection on pump gas 60# injectors. The car has a 12 bolt with 373 gears not alot of suspension done. I have not had it to the track yet but want to be prepared when the time comes. I have got into it a few times and ive noticed a lot of lag and i am also not able to hook when launching im looking for suggestions on what tires i should get and if i should change my gearing so i only use 3 gears in the 1/4 and if remounting the turbo to the front would eleminate enouph lag to make it worth the effort. i was also wondering about running another tank with a higher octane fuel. also wondering if shocks are worth it (running stock now) any other suggestions/ tips or different ways of setting things up would be appriciated. i am wanting to keep it a reliable street car that i car drive around on the weekends (not a daily driver) dont want a trailor or dyno queen

A set of HAl/QA1 adjustable shocks would be perfect you. A set of drag wheels or just another rear set of stockers with drag tires, either radials or slicks. Its really about how hard you want to hook.
Bob made a list of various mods you can do that will enable you to hook like never before, its a great read up,

Also wondering on the boost question. You should be fine with a 408 rear mount. Just figure out why your only makin 600rwhp with 14lbs. a 346 will make more power than that at that boost

how can you get better times if you don't have any times to compare? You'll probably run out of gear. you'll want to look into getting a two step to leave the line in boost. Slicks and full suspension too. Biggest thing to do is research..you can have all of the parts in the world, but without any track time..your not gonna run incredible times.

yes i have tts headers on the car right now and sorry i dont have a scaner to put the dyno chart on the computer when the car was dynoed it was on 91 octaine witch is hte standard premium around here going to try on 110 octaine and see if that will help with the RWHP i am thinking of leaving the turbo where it is and putting a small shot (50) and coating the exhaust to help the turbo spool faster and on the gears maybe going with a 323 witch im guessing might use up all of 3rd gear and keep me out of 4th i was also wondering about a good cam i currently have a 220 224 and am wondering if getting a larger cam would help me get better numbers without a real rough idle and i forgot on the tires i am wanting to keep the 17 by 11's that i got on the car now without tubbing or rolling the finders but if anyone can give me better ideas or tell me where im goin wrong feel free to tell me dont want to make changes for the worse

youll need the full suspensions , torque arm, panhard, hal qa1's, lca's, and a 28" tall slick, to get that 6 sp to hook. 2 step will be needed to help boost it up at the line.

Ditch the headers, put stock manifolds back on, anything that resembles lag should be fixed.
You could also convert to an automatic (th400) and it would spool much faster as well and give better track times and be more reliable. After having both a t56 and a th400 in my turbo car, I think it's nuts to put a manual in a high hp turbo car, the auto is WAY more fun. Two of the must fun words come with a th400.... trans brake

ideally...you want to go through the traps at power peak in 4th gear...not 3rd. 17x11s aren't going to be enough sidewall, you would actually need real slicks to get a good tiem with that much power, your gonna be spinning most of the distance.
