Default What tires do you guys run on the street?

I know this should be in the rims and tires section, but most people over there dont have high HP setups..My D1 is making around 14-15psi on a 402. No dyno numbers yet, so I dont know how much power the car actualy has.
I have tryed Nittos, Mickey Thompsons, and BFG drag radials, and they all still dont grab on the street. They just smoke when I try to go WOT. Should I bother buying a nother set of 315 35 17 BFG's drag radials, or should I just buy a cheap set of Sumitomo HTR Z's for $107. The way I see it I dont have any real races on the street, just messing around. Why Should I spend $160 a drag radial that wont hook and will burn out within 1000 miles, or buy a radial for $107 that still wont hook, but may last 2 or 3 times as long as the drag radial..What do you guys use just to mess around with on the streets?

M/T's at the track, Nittos on the street. The Nittos don't hook good for track tires, but I haven't found anything stickier that I can stilll drive home in the rain. If I wanted halfway decent street only tires, I would use Michelin.

I can't imagine you not being able to get the BFG drag radial II 315/30/18 to hook at least decent once they get hot. I've had mine on the street and in Texas summer weather the tires would get ridiculous sticky in about 10 minutes of pretty much normal driving. I don't have nearly as much HP as you, but I bet the BFG II drag radial would make it so you can use a good precentage of your street power.

315 nittos are a good street drag radial, but don't even come close the BFG DRAG II 315/30/18 when its hot on the street.

let me know when you find this magic tire

if you think that mt's dont hook up well then you will find regular tires completely useless

I have 315/35/17 Nittos which don't hook all too well. I am planning to run the 315/35/17 M/T if it ever comes out. I do expect that tire to hook pretty well considering how well the 275/40/17 version does.

I have 295/18 BFG Drag Radials. They hook up at least 50x better than plain jane radials. They hook up in 2nd on the street.

If the M/T's don't work then there is nothing else. Hopefully they will come out with a 315/35/17

I use regular radials for daily driving, and have a set of MT on spare WS6 rims for the track, or if I actually want to go fast. I tried using the Nittos for DD and they were worse than the g-force radials I have now.

Any 17" DR's I ran would get killed and forget about a regular radial.

I had 325-50-15 MT DR's on and 1rst was useless. No launch, just rolling out and matting it and spin spin spin. 2nd would light them to the rev limiter if I didn't grannyshift or pedal it. By 3rd they hooked.

Now I'm running 28x13.5x15 Hoosier QTP's that are working out well. Forget about any sort of mileage though. I don't daily drive my car so that's not really an issue for me.

For the street use i found the BF G-Force T/A KD to be better than the Nittos drag radials especially when the weather gets cold. Both wont hook up until 3rd, but the BF does it without warming up. The Nittos when cold spin even in 3rd gear. Unless u run 16-18psi with the Nittos all the time and do a 7 sec burn out every now and then... they are useless on the street.
