Default c5+forced induction questions.

Since the corvetteforums bitches turned this into a " what a supra can and cant do thread".. i thought i would post it here

I'm looking at eventually possibly picking up a 00/01 C5 coupe after recently selling my supra but have some questions.
I had a 00 heads/cam LS1 f-body and in all reality, its not the performance level i wanted so i want to get more out of a C5.

with a blower and STOCK motor (all boltons) what kind of power are people seeing? 1/4 and trap speeds? what about longetivy and problems?

what about heads/mild cam and a blower? at what level are the motors failing? is a mile stock block/crank/forged pistons build good enough to hold 700-800 rwhp on pump gas?

how would throwing a forged piston iron block into the car affect it?
I would like to eventually get to 600-700 rwhp on pump gas running rich enough to hold to the top of 5th ( around 200mph) with out blowing up.

What about turbo options? how do the turbo kits compare to blower kits in price?

What are your thoughts?

Making 700rwhp is no problem on a Vette with a forged motor and a blower. The biggest problems with the Vette is the fuel system when you make this power. Since you plan on going to 200mph you will have to customize the fuel system by spraying alot of Meth or a custom sump setup.

The fuel system on 00/01 Vettes is a single line system, at higher power levels, the earlier 2 line system is needed. Since your looking for a car to make big power, I would shop for a clean '99 car, then all you would need to upgrade would be the fuel pump and injectors for 600+ RWHP on pump gas.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you,

With a P1SC/D1SC, I have seen from 500-650 rwhp (stock engines).

If i had kept my supra, i would have had to upgrade the entire system too. So long term thats not a big issue, But my goal is to do the car in stages
(1) Bolt ones.
(2) either mild cam and some heads
(3) Blower ( stage 2 and 3 are reverable)
(4) hopefully this willnet 600 + rwhp.
(5) When needed.. do a set of forged pistons/rods

How are teh iron blocks holding up VS the alum blocks?

I've found the early systems are good for 700rwhp max.Even that is pushing it for high speed runs which really dry out the fuel lines. You can run 75lb injectors which might help alittle with the pressure drop.

Do a search under my sig buddy-once the forged motor goes in I expect at least another 75rwhp. If you do get a later car but before 03 you will have to upgrade to a 97-98 return style system at least. What I was going to do for my car was upgrade to the 97-98 system and bosch 400lph pump modified to fit in the stock bucket. I think speed inc does that. Slowhawk's done severa 700-800rwhp cars as well as Bob. Guys what do you guys do for a car in the with the single-not the 03 and up's.

I think long term, i would rather get an older 99/00 car for less cost then the newer one.. maybe a high milage one sinec i would like to eventually swap the motor.

Maybe just a pick up 97-98-this way the return system is already done-plus there cheap and then you have tonnes of dough for mods!

Running LS2 rails, stock lines, 72lb injectors, Bosch 420L in tank and KB BAP...enough fuel to go 9's at 144. I do run meth for safety, no for fueling. I don't know hp but shold be around 700+ with track weight and times.

Earl, so your not running a return setup? So Dr.Phil didn't think it was necceassary? Are those 72lb injecters Hi-impedance? What's the advantage of the LS2 fuel rail?

Non-return..72lbers are hi-impedence. LS2 Rails are reported to flow more. Phil is running mid 9's with the same rails and 60lb mototrons all on 93/94 octane.

Earl, any big end runs? i noticed on several cars set up fro 1/4 mile that up to 150-160 all was good.. As soon as it get into an extended MPH/range pull... EGTs and AF started looking ugly.

No top-end runs just 144 in the qtr. I will be doing some dyno tuning as I dial in my a/f ratios on a more aggressive pump gas/track and race gas/track tune so we'll see.

I suggest talking to jbsblownc5 (joel) on the corvetteforum. Yes, I know your thread quickly deteriorated due to some childish remarks from some Corvette guys, but you can PM him on that site. He has a 700+ horse blown C5 and he does extended canyon runs and other high speed runs, rather than drag racing. He'll probably know all the ins and outs of what's needed to do what you're asking.

you say you want to avoid alcy or race gas but if you want to keep your LSx happy you'll run one or both of the two just for saftey on a top gear pull... (or a water-air intercooler w/icecubes in the tank)
