what kind of characteristic differences do the d1sc and f1 or f1a have in terms of boost response on a 346/347 motor. can you run a f1/f1a on stock block, like a d1sc on low boost and then turn it up later when the fuel and motor can handle it?

The F1/F1A blower have a 5.40/1 step up ratio instead of the 4.10/1 ratio found in the smaller blowers. With the largest 8 rib head unit pulley ATI normally has is a 4.50 ( I have a 4.75 and a 5.0 that came from ATI) there is no way you could normally run the boost at a level that the stock bottom end could handle.
If you had a cam with a lot of overlap and some great flowing heads, you might get the boost down to where these larger head units will work. I don't off hand know of anyone who has tried it though. Bob

ok, so then if you were to use a d1sc at first and then if at a later date upgrade to a f1, what all is needed in the exchange?

You would have to purchase an F1 head unit, and sell your D1SC. Bob

Hey Bob, the F1-A is a direct replacement for the D1SC in terms of fit correct? I think I remember you saying it was a $450 upgrade as well?

i was actually thinking about going this route. Assumed I would be short shifting it as well.

Does the F1 reqire a different intake hat, bracket, etc. How exactly would it be setup? I liked that elbow that you guys had on your site instead of the ATI hat. Is that available?

The F 1/F1A series of blowers are basically a direct swap. Room gets tight for the inlet hat, but it's an easy fix it you don't have your a.c. condensor. For keeping the a.c. condensor, the whole bottom radiator support can be moved forward. Bob

The F1/F1A has the same diameter inlet as it's smaller brothers. A radiator relocation mod may be required as I mentioned in the post above, but that is all.
We can indeed make you the inlet hat combination that we made for the white T/A. Thanks for inquiring. Bob
