Default need help with garret 76mm

it is a 76mm with a t4/t6 housing. i am biulding a 346 and was wondering when i would biuld boost and what can i do to get boost as fast as possible. also some people have been telling me that a 76mm is way to big for that car because it will take 8000rpm to spool up at max boost. please help. would changing to a T3/T4 housing be better?

anyone that tells you that that turbo wont spool till 8000 is someone that shouldnt be giving advice about turbos. they obviously dont know jack.

heck, a friend has a pt67 on a 3.2l engine, and its spooled by 4500 ... and thats alot less engine trying to spool not much smaller of a turbo

A 76mm is ideal for a 346 ci motor. There is no such thing as a t4/t6 housing. It's either one or the other. A hybrid t4/t6 turbo is a regular t4 turbo (compressor) with a t6 housing. Same as a hybrid t3/t4. Garrett makes a 76mm GT series turbo on a t6 housing that alot of members on here run. I would think that spool time is comprimised some but overall HP pontential is raised. I think that turbo is cabable of over 1000 fwhp. Also need more info on your setup to help with your selection. T3/T4 should only be used on a twin setup.

As others have said. A T4 T76 will fully spool around 3000 rpm. A T6 T76 will make more power up top, but spool later - my guess is still before 4000 rpm.

So would a stock 346 benifit more from a t4 housing than a t6 for a 76mm?

T6 = more power plus very large
T4 = quicker spool and small

well how do i tell what it is i bought it from someone and have no clue. i just know that the turbo is huge. also i have a great deal on rotating assemblies and was wondering if i should add cubes or will the motor not last as long. sense smaller strokes can rev faster and higher safely.

The difference is the flange on the inlet of the turbine. The dimensions of both the T4 and T6 are on the internet. If it's a T6, then it will work very well with the larger displacement.

okay i dont have pics yet but the measurements dont make sense. the side where the turbo suocks fresh air in is 5 inch diameter. the part that blowns air into the motor is 2.5 inside diamteter. the exhaust side that the exhaust manifolds are connected to is 3.5 by 2.25 inside measuerments. the exhaust out side where the exhaust system hooks up to is 4.5 inside diameter. the turbo says garret and the number i found where in the middle of the turbo where the waste gate bolts to says 408752. on the exhaust housing the turbo says airresearch. can anyone help me with this turbo. overall dimensions are 11 inch tall and 9.5 inch diameter. the sucker is huge. please help.

If it is only a 76mm turbo then there is no need to add cubes..... a 346 will work just fine..... a T6 flanged Turbo would be worth it to me if i had plans to go faster in the future..... that way you didnt have to modify the kit you have.... it sounds like it could be a GT42.......

TV series units spool slow always. Huge shafts, old heavy wheels...etc. If you need a 76mm and T6, then the S76 would be the one to have.

What other mods do you have??? To run 9's all day its going to take more then just a turbo kit.... What trans??? Fuel system and tuning for a 9 sec ride is a lil bit of $$ also.... then the suspension.......
