Default Stock block done!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorta.

Car drove fine on the way home from work. Then the car wouldn't start later the same night and the starter was making a weird whining sound. So after inspection I was happy to notice that the bolts just came loose, and the starter was kinda hangin' there. Then After a little closer look I realized that the flanges/moldings on the block where the 2 starter bolts bolt to actually snapped off. WTF

I think I was boostin so hard even the starter was doin' 10 psi

Am I fucked and need a new block or would this be safe to weld and re-enforce somehow?

Your pretty well screwed. You can try getting it welded on, but it will be a ticking time bomb if it even starts the car once. Even with a top notch welder i would never trust it.

Thats pretty much the consensus I've been getting.......damnit

Maybe this is a godsend for a nice forged block! I might need to start a new thread for suggestions on a engine block and rotating assembly to maximize my T76

I have seen plenty of blocks welded up and working fine. A guy down here in southern Indiana welds up Steve Kinsers (World Of Out Laws) aluminum blocks all the time hell he has welded up main cracks all the time with no ill affects. It is worth looking into unless you have the money for a new block.

Thats crazy because this happened to me b4 I went away to college and now my car has been sitting in my parents driveway since august. I couldn't believe this happened when I checked to see what was going on. I've been told that I will need a new block. This really sucks when you don't have the cash.

Exactly! So you weld it, worst case scenario it breaks. Same boat you're in now. I've seen aluminum heads welded and hold stupid boost, I assure you the starter sees less stress.

I've seen that exact thing with identical looking piece about 3 times.

All three tig welded up just fine and never had another problem.

the weld is stronger then the block. On two of them, we did it with the motor still in the car, just taking out the headers/exhaust/starter and it was no problem

Build a nice iron block 370. Heck go with a stock cube LS2 with good internals. Now is the time. Your block said so....

I had two motor mounts on a CBR900 stunt bike welded. They had broken off after multiple crashes. I never had another problem after they were welded and that bike took a serious beating getting dropped once or twice every time I rode. Weld it up.

I would have it welded up and drill it so you can heli coli so there are new threads. When you reinstall the strater torque the bolts according to torque specs and you should be fine! Good Luck!
