Got 2 diff blown motors with 2 diff problems. One is a 8-71 BDS on a 502 with Alum heads. Having trouble controlling the temp. long story behind that one. We've tried all the usual. We even put a second radiator in, so now it has 2. I think its a head gasket issue but it doesnt have most of the symptoms that go along with it. It just heat soaks and starts goin up and dont stop. Doin some more testing tomorrow. check for CO2 in the cooling system. Last time I checked for this, there was none. but the problem seems to be getting worse.
The second one is a 6-71 on a 427 ford side oiler. This one will get the header tubes glowing. No matter what the timing, or A/F ratio. I think I know whats up with that one too. The header tubes are too small, I think.
Both are EFI motors, both pump gas.
Have more specifics, may be able to post pix.
TIA

verify base ignition timming before you jump on the to small of a header train.

Ignitions verified. Crank trigger and distributor phasing have been done per specs. Also has been verified with timing lite/ignition table at various rpm/load.
I can change the timing, up or down, let the headers cool back down for a while at idle, rev it again a lil and they start right back up!
I can fatten it up and it doesnt change.
I can lean it out it doesnt change.
Of course the motor sounds the nicest @ 13:1 or so
The blower is 9% over. We're kinda thinkin that may be why, but they'll glow @ 2000 after 30 secs or so, with no load or nothin, so the manifold's still in a vacuum, so wouldnt that kinda takin the % of drive out of the equation? We're gonn swap pulleys and retune prolly tuesday and see what happens.
It seems like alot of motor with tiny headers. 1 7/8. WASNT built by us. The header choice was a clearance issue.
BTW all of this post is about the one thats NOT in the picture
I'll try to get a picture up of the one I'm talkin about here
Here ya go
