Default ati plastic plentum, how much boost can it handle?

I was just wondering how much boost you guys are running on the stock plastic plentum for the procharger. on my last setup at just under 11 psi I thought that thing was going to pop, now that im going with 14-16 im a little concerned that it might. also are there any performance advantages to going with a metal one? does anyone make them cheaper then ati?

I ran it on my own '99 Z28 at 15 psi without any problems. Bob

would there be any performance advantages to going to metal to prevent the expanding of the plentum? I think you told me when I was at your shop that you had seen one pop

We ran one on an engine dyno and it popped at 12psi.

Certainly without the expansion, the boost would be more immediately forced into the engine. The difference though is probably so small that it would not be detectable. Hard call, several plastic ones have come apart, although they have a good track record. The metal ones would soak in some heat on the other hand... Bob

Well I have the polished metal one and its just as prone to probs I was chasing a boost leak and just found out that the entire weld on the bottom had come apart we acually got it welded yesterday and now am seeing a full 12 psi all the way to redline and a full 8psi at 2800 which is WAY fun!!!!

I popped a plastic plenum on the first dyno pull on 9psi. ATI was really cool about it and RMA'd it and let me upgrade to the polished aluminum one for cheap.

Just called, they won't do anything for me since it's over a year old... Of course they will sell me a new one... They recommended visiting a local radiator shop that could weld aluminum and getting it patched up...

I'm going to fab up something with pipe and get rid of the plenum, or move to a front mount, haven't decided yet...

If you don't want the front mount you could go to a "butt pipe" similar to the Incon turbo kits and keep the twin intercoolers

That's exactly what I thought of. To spoil the surprise, I am having something similar to the incon pipe fabbed up out of 2.5" polished stainless. Should work great and look great too.

Hopefully it will be complete early next week, I'll post pics.
