Default Confused? Bypass Valve / BOV

I'm a little confused. I have a stock Procharger system on my car. Right now I am pushing 11lbs and going to change the pulley to get me around 13-14lbs w/ meth.

What I'm confused about:
- Is my stock bypass valve sufficient for this much boost
- Do I need a bov now

Some people say they have a bov and others don't. Why?

Thanks

Im going to say that your bypass valve will be fine... I say this for the sheer fact that Kyle is running the procharger bypass valve on his turbo car running 20 lbs of boost and capable of 8's.. However, there could be some case that i am unaware about so if i'm wrong someone correct me, but i believe it will be sufficient for a long time... Hope this helps.

BTW, will you be at the MIFbody M&G again this year?

We'll see. Isn't it in Milford this year? Last year it was near my house, so it was no problem getting away from the family for a few hours. Are you?

you should be running a bypass valve made for a supercharger on your setup. Bypass valves are open at idle and anytime vacuum is introduced to them. This can be easier on your blower by venting air from the blower in instances of downshifting or high engine rpms with low or no throttle input.

When you run a BOV on a blower car you will get the annoying chirping sound.

i put a vortech mondo valve on my turbo car that i scored on ebay for 50 bucks. When i idle i am actually pulling air in from the bypass valve, then as soon as the throttle is opened the valve slams shut.

If you were to upgrade i would either upgrade to one of teh procharger units, or the vortech ones.

I like the Tial BOV it works good just even the 7psi spring is a bit hard I may do a little modding to get it to work but it still chirps a little not too much though

Do I need a Blow Off Valve? Or not a necessity?
Some run it, some don't.

any video clips of a bov on a s/c car? wouldn't you have to run a blow through maf because of venting metered air?

stick with a bypass valve guys....thats hell on the bearings on the blower when you run a BOV. the blower is pushing more air than the engine is using.

Get a Greddy Type R bypass valve-it's bit smaller than the mondo so you have alot more places to put it. I'll post pics of how I have mine installed bro.

i agree on using a bypass valve on a supercharger, lot of the smaller BOVs wont move enough air and will stay closed at idle/part throttle and cause some tuning headaches. Not to mention the chirp is pretty annoying..

The stock ATI bypass will be OK, if you go to a bigger one you will have to vent it open and it will be pretty loud.

you can even get a vortech maxflow, which is one step smaller than a mondo.

dont sell yourself short and get a BOV, you can find bypass valves so cheap its not even funny.

Well, according to KP, the stock one should be just fine and he's running alot more boost.

I'm just trying to avoid any problems and do things right.

Thanks for all the replies. Arun, send that pic when you get a chance.

I don't think kp is still using the stock bpv. and I think he vents his to the atmosphere

I could be wrong

I'm not on the stock one, I use an open mondo bypass.

Problem is going to anything bigger involves some fabrication to the stock ATI pipes and dumping to atmosphere, putting a valve on thats bigger then the hole in the pipe does little good.

I would try it, lot of guys ran 14-15psi on the stocker, it looks like it flows decent but my beef with it was it didnt really seal perfect but going back and forth I only saw a tiny difference in boost between them at 10-11psi. Andereck will probbaly chime in sooner or later, he is the guy to ask

We use the stock ATI Proflow bypass valve at 14 to 16 psi without any problems. Bob

Only if its an "to atmosphere" dump valve/BOV, it isn't exclusive as many are recirculating and make no sound.

i wasnt referring to the actual sound of the air venting..it was a fluttering sound that blowers with BOVs make when driving around.
