Default My 91mm Turbo Project So Far...

This is my set up so far minus the wastegate location, but it will probably go by the fuse box. I have a real 5in downpipe through the K-frame and I'm going to step down to 4in all the way out the back.

It was a PT-88 before and it was in approximately the same location. I had to cut the frame to make the new turbo fit. And the radiator is the same one I used before and I didn't have to move that again. I made all of the hot piping (which I am still working on), but used part of an SLP header on the passenger side. All of the hot piping needs to be finish welded and cleaned up. I will be ceramic coating the pipes when they are done and looking good.

I got a Griffin front-mount intercooler with aluminum piping throughout. T56 Rebuilds currently has my 6-speed to do a face-plated G-Force tranny and somehow putting an SFI bellhousing on it.

Here's some pics. Enjoy!

i doubt it

having an 88mm on my 6spd car i know how the lag is, and i can only imagine how much worse a large frame will be. i assume the guy is over 1100 at the wheels to be making the sacrifice.

i dont think i would have my 1100 car tearing up the streets..... i would prob tune it down to the 700rwhp range

then what would be the point of going bigger? lol, unless you're having traction issues from not enough lag.

im curious why an 88mm wouldn't be sufficient on the street. op, what are your cubes?

I didn't have traction issues, and I was on Nitto 555R's. I maxed out my setup and was spraying a 150 shot part of 2nd and all of 3rd and 4th. The only reason I switched to the 91mm was because the PT-88 took a **** and I thought, what the hell, why not go bigger? The PT-88 was also an old-technology turbo where the 91mm is a ball bearing turbo so I figured the spool time probably wouldn't be a whole lot different. If I can lay down what I did on the street with Nittos, my Hoosier drag radials are going to be a treat and I'll probably be able to lay more power down sooner and not use the N2O. Plus, with the bigger turbo I might be able to run pump gas and mess with some "slower" cars. I'm starting to get it ready to take it to the track, but it probably won't happen this year.

It will be an interesting experiment if only for the BB turbo !

When we fitted a ITS T70 to a 2.3 litre Subaru, we thought it have terrible lag...

It was far from it. Spool was excellent. The fun was cut short with a dropped valve tho

BB turbos should be used more often. They defo work well on smaller engines.

hmm, well i don't see how, but hopefully some way you will be able to take advantage of it.

i reccomend the 325/50/15 mt dr for any hope in at least 3rd gear on the street...assuming it spools

i'd like to know more about your fuel set up too.

i have 2 fuel tanks...and 2 pumps. the factory tank is sumped and is ran off a 2025 weldon and the 9gallon race gas tank is in the trunk and it has a 2035 weldon pump. so.....gas goes from the pump to a y block, then it goes to a single feed line to the fuel rail. from their it gas to another y block which has 2 ways it can go. i control which tank i send the return fuel to with 2 turn levers that are mounted on the y block. also on the first y block going to the motor their is 2 check valves so i does not back flow in to the other system.
so lets say im going down the road on pump gas..... now a see something that might be fast coming up on me, so what i do is toggle switch off street pump and toggle on race pump.....i then immediately reach to my 2 turn valves and switch the race race to return to the race gas tank so i don't waste it ...........from their drop gears...brake boost it and go!
and to go back 2 street gas just flick a switch and turn a valve now your back running 92.

well my old set-up (pt88) dead hooked on a roll with arround 16 psi in first and everything i had in all the rest....and that was on nitto 555r's and i was spraying it in part of 2nd and up. now i am going to run the hooser drag radial 335-35-17 which are 3 times the tire for hooking and with the new tranny i can try to get some sort of a launch down too. Now if this 91 turbo is too big of a bitch to spool ....well thats where my no2 will have to come in to get it going. **** my pt88 woulded full spool till 5000rpm cause its was on its way out and i was going the wrong way with my timing map when i was tryin in make it spoon faster... so with a new ball bearing turbo and a fixed timimg map i dont think it will spool any slower then the pt88 did. But if it does i can use the juice to get it going... i can also rev to 8000rpms with this motor too so i go alittle room to play with........but don't get me wrong, i am alittle nervous about this!

full spool at 5000rpm ???? IMO thats pretty bad. And thats your old setup ? Unless you had at least 8000rpm available, that doesnt sound nice at all.

like i said i had everything working wrong for me and it still was ok.....and yes i can spin to 8000rpm. so i'm hoping with problems fixed and a much newer technology turbo it can't be any worst then it just was.
