Default Sometimes when you have too much Boost... This Might Happen...

Damn..............

Take a look at this...

Did a hard Pull Yesterday, lost Power on the Top end, and this is what I found..


Looks like a normal engine Bay !!


What's This rush of AIR I'm hearing??


WHAT'S THIS???


Ummm.. How in the world did this Happen???


UMM Wow.. Soo Much Boost it Broke the Freaking Metal Collector from the Intercoolers... Boost baby BOOST... I've heard of the plastic one breaking but Jezzzz.. I cannot even pry it closed when I step on it..


wow... looks like boost can hurt...

**** like that is great to find, cuz it's easy to fix & prevent and nothing blew up because of it.

I've seen several broken welds on import cars intake manifolds due to high boost and questionable design/construction.

Most people seem to forget that PSI = Pounds per Square Inch. That means a 12" by 12" surface area that sees 20 psi of boost has to withstand 2880 lbs (144 sq inches * 20 psi) of force being applied to it. Stuff breaks.

Sucks that it broke Hugger, but it looks like a pretty easy fix

Actually thats happened to a few people now in the exact same spot on older aluminum plenums. At least its easy to find and fix

yeah i recall seeing a few threads like this over the years. doesn't happen often, but it's not one of those "oh my god how did this ever happen?" thing

Mine did the exact same thing about three weeks ago !

I replaced the plenum and rubber tubing from the intercoolers with my own setup fabbed from polished mandrel bent/16 gauge stainless.

Looks like it failed from fatigue.

We used to try and explain this concept to the engineers from Caterpiller on some prototype exhaust setups we were building for them. They thought we were being a PITA <shrug>

I suspect the angle of the dangle must be adjusted....
