Default Anyone ever wonder why Supra BOV's sound so badass?

Maybe someone has already brought this up and I missed the thread or maybe I am the only one who has ever wondered this but why do Supra BOV's sound so badass when not shifting at WOT? I drove a Supra for the first time a few months ago and it made me want to sell my car. Under WOT, I think mine actually sounds as good but when just driving around and getting up to 3-4000 rpms, the Supra is by far much more cool sounding. For the people that think I am a dumbass (Anthony, I know you'll find this post, lol) you have to have had the chance to drive one around. You're not going to know what I'm talking about by watching streetfire videos of Supra's going ***** out WOT. The sound I'm talking about is a series of wooshes/surges, between shifts where mine and most BOV's that I've heard on LS1's are a single woosh or two. I don't know if it has to do with the design of the turbo kit or the size of the motor or the way the air enters the motor with dual overhead cams but it makes me want to drive around for hours just to hear it.

take a shim or 2 out of your bov..
its not the motor per say but more the bov and how/where its setup and the amount of air passing through it/them (some people use more than 1)

You got the bug now! Happend to me back in 1998 so I had to get one. Couldnt afford it so I got a 300zx TT instead, sold it then and got a low mile 93TT. Nothing like driving one, everyone I have known who actually got to drive one, now owns one.

Were you driving a stock turbo supra or modded? That makes a difference in sounds too. All you hear is constant turbo and bov....and wastegate dump if you got a single or big twins

Maybe, its the type of bov. Some sound different than others. Some have different spring rates.

supra's generally run more boost on average then an LS1 so they are constantly creating boost to get the 3.0l going in the heavy car.....

lol, not to mention 20+ psi through a sequential turbo system makes for a lot of noises! (modded stock turbos anyways)

It has to do with the size of the bov, the amount of pressure and volume behind it, and how the air flows through it. My old LT1 car made a (pssssssst, pssssst, pssst, pst) sound with the cheesy little bosch unit (that worked well btw). I put a Greddy type-r and it was just a long psssssssssssssssssst.

Ive got a tial 50mm bov and the one time i got to drive it I gave it about 1/4 throttle and it went up to about 10-12 psi and made all kinds of freaky noises!!! First one was a really loud toush sound then a bunch of flutering sounds!! Shouldnt be to long till I get it on the road so I can get some video footage!!! Cant wait its freakin awsome!! Haha!!

alot of the supra guys also run the HKS SSQ blow of valve.... you can change the inserts to modify the sound it makes.

FYI the SSQ valve is the only Pull Type Blow off valve (like tial) made by a japanese company.... it's the on;y one that can hold 25+ psi wich is why almost all "jdm" import guys run them.

The higher the pressure gets the different the BOV will sound. The tial on a standard V8 sounds like crap I think, but on a high boost setup it sounds awesome.

The Supra I drove in was at the time about 850rwhp. It is now over 1000. And for the guy who said 10psi vs. 30psi; just to re-clarify, I'm talking about shifting under normal driving, not shifting under 20psi. It has a Tial 50mm I believe. Same one as my other friend on an LS1 that sounds completely different. One other thing, except for the sound of the BOV, I must say that I prefer driving my SS 10 to 1 over the Supra. I didn't care for the feel of the car whatsoever. Then again, I'm sure the stiff suspension and triple disc clutch wasn't doing me any favors either but my car is dropped 2" with a SPEC Stage 4 and my car feels like a cadillac in comparison.

Did you sport wood afterwards? Was it awkward getting out of the car?

Actually I would like to hear it. I'm not really into spending money for stuff thats useless but this is no different than buying better speakers. I'm assuming your friend with the Galant did it purely for the sound of it. I can't see him needing 2 50mm BOV's in that kind of car.

I think the reason you liked the way it sounded is because his car was surging with a 76 gts, the fluttering weird sound it made between shifts. Sure the tial bov sounds better with more boost, but with the new turbo (45-80) it doesnt sound even close to what it did.
