Default Air to Air intercooler efficiency

Just wondering if anyone has actually measured the differences between compressor outlet temps and intercooler outlet temps?

Been thinking of tossing in a couple of IAT sensors at the inlet and outlet of my procharger intercooler and logging on HPT to see what the temp difference is over varying outside air temps.

Next phase would be to install a "misting" system and see what effect that has on the efficiency of the intercooler.

I am just curious if someone else has already gone down this path and has some results to share?

You may have looked at this already, it's not conclusive IMO

You could also use the same positions as the IAT sensors to put in a hose bung so you could hook up your MAP sensor to them one at a time, to see your pressure loss through the IC. Then you'd have a full set of data - temp reduction and pressure drop.

I have modified this intercooler for the testing you're interested in.

That is exactly what I am thinking of doing. ordered the NPT IAT sensors this morning. Need to get the bungs ordered next, and will be following in your footsteps. Very interested in your setup and results.....let me know what your findings are.

Yep saw that back when I ordered my procharger kit for the GTO, I have just been wondering about the "efficiency" of the cooling effect since I have ventured beyond the 7-8PSI levels.

I will be modifying my intercooler as "andereck" has and see what happens, also interested in what effect the "misting" will have.

Thanks for the inputs....more later.

What are you going to use to log the IAT?
You'll want a couple 2.2kohm resistors to use as pullup resistors for the 5v supply. You then need to be able to convert the voltage to temperature unless you have another solution.

My intercooler pipes pass right next to each other. I like to have people touch them and see the difference. One is quite hot and the other is around ambient.

First that is a great looking intercooler.
You really want to use T/C's not IAT's. IAT's respond to slow for real time data.
Fluke makes a two T/C reader and logger that works good for what your doing.
I have done this testing in are rad windtunnel at work to find how good or bad intercoolers, rad, condeners, and any other heat exchangers found in cars are.

Bummer we could have tested it for you.
