Default Mild DD turbo...questions.

Im building a mild turbo street car from a 99Z M6.(stock cubes and CR.) I want to run an STS kit (I know its not the best but I just like them) I have a set of LS6 heads and an LS6 intake. Im undceided about cams I would like to have a LS6 cam but I dont have one so I would have to buy one. Or should I just buy a custom grind for the app. I want a smooth idle (factory quality) with a bit more bit than a stock LS1 cam. any suggestions on anything would be great.

LS6 or a Lingerfelter gt2-3(small cam) have both had good results. Are building a low compression short block to use with those heads?

I was planning on using stock short block. I dont want a boosted monster. I was wanting something around 420rwhp at about 5-7psi.

Just wondering cause I just sold my ls6's last year to by a set of 317's. I'm going to be useing the stock shortblock also just want to do it safely. My goal is 480-500 rwhp @ 8 psi though.

Good luck to you

Good luck with your plan to stay on the "mild" side of forced induction . IMHO, If you can get a hold of LS6/ZO6 cam for a cheap price then go for it, but if the price is close to a new aftermarket one then just go with a custom spec. and you should have no problem attaining your goals on 8psi. BTW, you gotta love the sound of them STS, they sound so sweeeet!!!

It should make quite a bit more than that with 5-7psi. Depending on airflow and what size turbos the sts uses you should see more power than that. Good luck, Josh

Oooops! I got mixed-up . I agree with Cam72aro, you should easily make more than 420rwhp with 5-7psi., but like he said...what size turbo?

T60. Just the basic STS kit. I figure that and an LS6 cam backed by a M6 pushing through a 12bolt with 4.56 gears should be a good "mild DD"

4.56!!!??? ... I'll put 3.42 if i were you, that gear would be way too steep for a turbo'ed m6 car.

With boost and that gear you will be shifting every half a second and not be able to take advantage of it.

With an M6 the STS is slow to build boost in first and second as it is... run a 4.56 and you might not make much of ANY boost until third or so... You're gonna end up with a car that run 120+ from picking up at the top end of the track but never get out of the 12s...
