Patriot Gold Valve Springs on a stock motor
hey guys, I'm slowly getting into the fi game with my daily driver. the plan is to go with a procharger. I'm trying to do some of the preparations for boosting the car in "weekend sized" steps so I can keep the car up and running as much as possible. I was wondering if it's ok for me to install and drive around with the patriot Gold valve spring kit on my stock motor before the procharger install & tune. Also, I've been told that I need to upgrade my springs, but didn't know how to determine the spring pressures needed and stuff for my application.

being stock internals, I am planning on trying for hp in the low 500s or a while. from what I've read, much more than that, and the motor will be pretty short lived. With a d1sc i think it will take 6-7psi ... p1sc will probably take 7-9psi. This isn't first hand experience as I'm new to fi, but just what I have read. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

i just don't know how different spring pressures effect a stock motor. I mean, I would think it would cost a few hp to open valves that have a higher spring pressure. And it would seem plausable that an unusually high spring pressure could cause cam lobes to be eaten or something.

Better pushrods would be required with upgraded springs.
Considering the overlap of time in doing the upgrades in stages,
you might be better off taking a day or two off work so you have
the time to do both mods (cam, springs & pushrods) at once.
I know I hate having to take apart stuff over and over again!
That way when you go FI, you won't have to tear into the motor.
Just my $.02

yeah, I didn't mention it, but I was planning on doing pushrods, but honestly wasn't concidering a cam. The spring change is just a preventive measure to avoid valve float. I guess I could throw in TR's cheaTR or blower cam in there, but I wouldn't be getting a tune until the procharger install.

The Patriot valvesprings won't hurt your camshaft anymore than they would an aggressive camshaft. We use them on a lot of our installs, and I would use them in your combination. http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com....html?item=651 Bob
