Default TQ Converter in TH400 with Laggy Turbo

Hey fellas... Its been a while.. I have been cooking here in Iraq. It sounds as though Steve is making some ground with tunning my beast.

The street tunning results (Tunning off MAF for now, going to SD tune) are "Laggy like a Big turbo SUPRA, but at 50 we bumped the gas and broke the tires loose. In boost its a monster at just 3lbs"

So that being said... I am thinking about what the best converter would be for a good launch in boost. It has a 3400 in it now... but I am thinking I will need a 4000 or better.

Thoughts???

Jared

You need a very good converter for your situation. I'd give neal chance a call. I think the turbo mustang guys use PTC a lot as well.

The other solution is a different turbo, like the ST80 which is what I will probably upgrade to next year. My T76 spools really fast with the changes I've made. I need better tires for the track.

The Neal Chance converters are excellent.
You may also want to give Dusty Bradford a PM
he is a PTC dealer and his customers seem really happy.
Right now the quickest 1/8 on drag radials is running a PTC Bolt Together.

Of course it may need more since its an retarded rear mount (im just saying) car but definitely keep the converter where its at and play with timing more. Dont be afraid to throw a bunch of timing to get the exhaust energy up to help with spool time.

I added a bunch of timing to my car in the spoolup area when i'm on the transbrake. I'm running about 30 degrees of timing until 2psi, then it drops to about 27 by 5psi and goes down from there. My converter goes over the falls about 6psi and I'm able to leave on as much boost as I want after that point. That first 6psi is what's hard to get, you need a lot of torque to get on the converter.

You could probably go more up until the o boost point then pull it out quickly to where you are at now.

I know we ended up at 38 in our turbo mustang down low and still have a slight hesitation when full throttling it on the brake. Going to go 42 next time out. This is also a front mount setup so its a tad more exhaust efficient. We left her a little rich but threw a bunch of timing at it to clean up the fueling and its 10 times better then it was when we first started. Just make sure you dont leave it in there on accident. Then you could be in some trouble.

Jermey (Zombie) good to see you again bro...

ITS NOT AN STS!!! Not unless they have come up with a new PT88 kit of some kind. When I say lag... its not some T-60 turbo in the back of an STS Setup... its a PT88 on the back of a low compression built 408.

Nasty, Yep I do and have... but not on my TH400. What I know or believe is the best plan is get a tight 4000 (10") and set the two-step just below the break point. If I could get into 6-8lbs of boost that would be awesome... What do you see on the line from your S88? Am I looking for too much?

Jermey... I remember you tried the 88mm did you ever try to transbrake it or 2-step it?

Thanks guys... I have heard alot about Neal Chance... I will keep that in mind.

Timming huh? You guys doing that with Stock PCM or BS3?

Wow...12-14 would be crazy.. Harlan is running a 370 too right? My cubes make up for the turbo being in the back (or so I hope)

If I am not mistaken Kyle is running a Stock PCM with a injector driver and a maft pro (I could be wrong)

Am I right about the 2-step and converter?
