Default Turbo/ cam match questions

I currently have a '98 TA with the following mods...
-Vigilante 3200 Stall
-Build 4L60E
-Moser 12 Bolt 3.23
-FAST 90mm Manifold
-FAST 90mm Throttle body
-Walbro 255L In Tank Pump
-SVO 30# Injectors
-Comp 1.8 Rockers
-Comp Chromeoly Pushrods
-Comp 918 Springs
-Ferrea 2.02 and 1.57 valves
-Ported 241 Heads
-Hooker Supercomp Longtubes
-Hooker ORY
-Comp XER273HR-14
ADV DUR: 273 279
DUR @ .050: 224 230
LOBE SEP: 114.0
VALVE LIFT: .581 .592

I received a reasonable sized inheritance and I am putting it into the car.

I want to do a forged shortblock (not sure on ci), but I do know that I really want a turbo setup. I was thinking STS since its in the back and I already purchased longtubes. Just really wondering if this would be a decent boost cam? I want a 600+ rwhp car. So all things considered tell me what you guys think. I am open to new ideas and suggestions. Thanks!

If you don't want to sell off some of your other mods, then I'd go with a Procharger/D1SC setup with a FMIC upgrade. The Cam would work really well for a supercharger.

You are already mostly set up for a supercharger, not turbo. All you need is the kit, short block, bigger injectors and more fuel. For a turbo you'll need that plus you have to ditch the LTs (even with the STS) and get different gears (2.73s). Personally, I would go turbo anyway, but I'm biased.

Twin screw whine ???... otherwise, go turbo...

if you've got the money, then do what your heart desires... no matter what way you go, its not going to be cheap... be fore-warned

Just read alot in this forum section. There are alot of ways to go that people have already done. You can get to your 600rwhp pretty simply, but not cheaply.

expected cost to go from what i have now to a forced induction beast? I know it is gonna vary depending on wether i go supercharger or turbo, type of kit, upgrades, etc... I would think between power adder(turbo or super), shortblock, injectors, bigger pump, rails, tune, etc... to run me around 12k. Sound off? Or maybe I should say this. I have 15k to work w/. Can it be done for under that??

LT headers shed too much heat to work well with the butt-mount turbo anyway.

That's a sweet kit if you can afford it. I would get one if I could. I don't know if you could do it for 12k with a short block and everything else, but you would have to give them a call. I think the only one with that kit up and running is the speed inc guy, but you will have to search around here to find out for sure.

things to think about FIRST.

Fuel system-this is an absolute must, you will get used to the power and want more trust me. Get a fuel system capable of 1000 hp, you want rock steady fuel pressure at high boost levels.

Forged shortblock- do it right from the get go, stock cubed forged blocks are cheap.
ls2 short blocks seem to work really well.

built tranny-your stock tranny will take a ****.

a nice supercharger kit like the D1 from ATI or T trim from Vortech will be fun.

i get lots of head turns with my blower car.

I tend to agree here. Small business, stocks, land, etc. . . much better investments. If you put it in a car, NONE will be left in 10 years, not even the car.

well i already have a house... and i only have an 11 second car. I was really feenin' for the 10's last season. I am super attached to the car. Doubt I will ever sell her. That and I only run the car maybe 2-3 times a summer. I just really want it to look @ and cruise around. And when that super modded import comes along...I dont want to doubt myself. Besides I could aways write this one off as a confidence booster!!! ahah!
