Default Planning my FI build

As some of you may already know, my head/cam SS is putting down some nice numbers (479/417) as of today...

I like it, but I want to start building a motor for my new set up for Spring of 2008. I am leaning towards a procharger, and a built motor.

I have a few options at this point as to which motor I may go with, and how many cubes.

The car is 90% street, with some track time. My goal, with the fuel pump and rails/injectors I have now will be 750-800 wheel.

I want to know what motor will be a great foundation for this kind of set up.
THANKS!

ps- I will build the motor myself, with the help of a shop owner who is willing to help me with all the right tools and so on...

This survey, and other questions is the beginning of research for me over the next few months, so any help is appreciated!

keep your setup simple, it will all boil to how deep your wallet is.

A 402 with either a nice tt kit from speed inc or supercharger will do the job.

just be prepared to spend 15-20 grand.

Yeah, more towards the 20 side! If your supercharging it reuse your block or get a forged 348, if you turbo it get a 370 iron block with forged internals. Give Larry a call at speed inc and let him know what you want they will point you in the right direction even if you decide not to buy from them. They extremely helpful there!

I say reuse the alum block...it will be cheaper (since you already have it) and also, it will hold up fine for what youre trying to do with it.

370 iron block with a APS TT kit would be killer.

What it some down to is how much money are you willing to spend.

Okay well, from experience the first 2 things you need to do is plan on spending double what you budgeted and double the amount of time you alloted for the project...seriously!

What's your compression at with the motor you have now? If it's not too high, I say just strap on a procharger and see how it does. Starting with 479rwhp, it shouldn't take much boost to get you in the hp range you want. I started with 408rwhp and adding a procharger with 13psi almost got me to 700rwhp.

low compression forged LS2 and reuse ur heads and intake

I wouldn't be too comfortable putting 750-800whp thru a ls1/6 block

no, ur getting the LS2 block confused with the LS1. 750 crank MAX on the LS1 or it's just a ticking time bomb. u'll see people pushing more but I don't suggest it.

LS2 can handle the 1000hp all day. get a LS2 block and build a forged bottom end or buy a shortblock built from one of the sponsors.

ok, just so i got this straight. im talk about the stock block only. a ls1 block with forged rods and pistons with arp rod and main bolts can only take 750 bhp? reliable ofcourse.

What exactly is wrong with the ls1/6 block going over that

There are several members here that have pushed the stock cube motors to some pretty impressive numbers and limits. Just curious what part of the block do you think is not as good as the LS2. Not trying to come off rude here at all, just never heard anyone say they wouldn't take an LS1/6 that's all.

Also a few post back you stated you wouldn't push an LS1/6 over 750-800 rwhp, then you said 750 crank? Any reason for that. Just learning here.

I do understand that the OP wants high numbers and would agree that the LS2 would better be suited for his goals. There have been several post about blocks and thier tolerneces and all. Like I said before just curious as to what part of the LS1/6 block you think is the weak link? Is it the cubes? A design factor?
