Default New here, How bad is this cam going to hurt me.

Hello everyone, this is my first post here at LS1tech but I have been a reader for a long time. I have a question regarding my cam now and how bad (or good) it will work with my new procharger set up. Let me give you a break down on what the motor is, Forged 370 ci, bone stock l92 heads, a great flowwing exhaust and the GM grand am cup cam (.239/.251 .570/.570 106lsa) If I was to add a procharger on to this running 12-14 PSI with my 10:1 compression what do you think is going to happen with the power in relation to the cam. All thoughts are welcome but I really don't want to go with any other cams.

Thanks

Joe

that big of a split duration and 106LSA is about the worst possible boost cam ever! It would be even worse on a turbo though.

I have read that with a super charger lsa would push your power band higher.

That cam doesnt sound too far off what the black Craig's Auto's Ute from down under uses, if I remember right.

It had long duration and a very low LSA like that. Its a 408ci with a Vortech, and runs 8.2 at 160 something. It made over 1000bhp.

If nothing else, do try it, as it would be an excellent experiment.

I'd try it, we've used cams that really surprised us in the past with forced induction. Bob

You can try it.... id just watch running that boost and not running Meth or Race gas with that compression..... it will make power for sure..... just make sure you have enough Octain....

Ahhhh... the Grand Am Cup Cam. Like Bob said, I would give it a try. The big durations are not a problem( so to speak ), but the small LSA will bleed off a bit of boost off. I would bet it will still make some good power with the L92 heads. I think that cam on a 115 or 116 LSA would make stupid power. I was going to go with a wider LSA vesion of cam, but got talked into a 235/245//598/608//115. If you do try it, post the results as I would be interested in them

Ill be doing the same thing with a vortech on the same cam with 10 comp.

WOT this came is already making 1psi of boost at bdc

i believe this came would be very effective on FI system. if you think about and compare it to a cam made for achieving the most effective boosting numbers from closing out overlap. If you every thought about the advantages of overlap - you get cylinder Cooling, exhaust valve cooling, high Vacuum <- low chances of detonation - boosting air velocity to the cylinder - raises detonation from pressure. but chances are still low do to the a cooling of the cylinders and valves before compression.

for this abdc of 47degrees converts to a 9.25 dynamic compression so you actually losing compression but overall your gaining DC over Stock which from 10SC would only be around 7 DC

so also depends where you live and your altitude to if you should be running higher static compression vs lower

at 11 psi your at a dynamic comp level of 16 something. I believe FI non-street drag motors run at 20DC street are around the lower range 10-14 dc. cant remember though so dont quote me i didn't feel like doing any research just going off the top of my head

but in other words i cold see very big results from FI

just adding a different thought
