i think its neat considering its a ways off the starting line
this pass was a 9.91 at 140 on a 1.70, my exaust up to the turbo blew apart and killed my boost
after rigging it back together i made another pass 9.98 at 148 (new pb mph) on a 1.78 60' it was leaking enough to keep my launch boost from ever showing up
these felpro gaskets either are not better than the gm mls OR my heads/block are too out of shape to seal reguardless. it would sure suck to have to take it all out and apart just to get the surfaces machined.. but i don't know what else to do.. suggestions? i would rather start a 6 bolt build but havent found a free one laying around anywhere.

I have been water pushing free (as far as I can tell anyhow) on the MLS gaskets for 30 passes now, even up to 18psi. But you are probably making 60-70 more rwhp then I am to run 148 at that weight. Dont know exactly what 'fixed' mine since I swapped heads, went back to true GM 5.7 MLS gaskets and swapped cams as well. But the short block hasnt been out of the car since it was new so I never had the deck cleaned up.

David,
How much boost were you running there and how much timing???
I was lifting them before with 20 psi and the timing i was running... 23 degree's... on good gas...
Ya think you warped the block also since its alum.???? Id try decking the heads .001: and see if that works.... All Pro heads correct???
I wanted to do an LSX 6 bolt block also... but the less then $2k now for the block is the cheap part... its getting heads..... before next YR...
Plus i dont want to spend $4-4.5K on a set of ETP's heads.. (Thats for Solid Roller Pricing BTW)

engine doesnt have any blow-by.. or my pcv set up is doing an awesome job.. probably a combination of both.
these are fel pro mls gaskets, 4 layer i think. i am supposed to let the fel pro guy know how it goes.. lost his number.. need it again from kurt.
kp if it throws your calculation out i had to lift once right into second gear, my 1/8th was only 116
spark advance was 14-15*
lots of meth, 5 gal of 115 (stolen from a mustang i am working on) and about 5 gallons 93
i have made 11 or so passes on this set of gaskets, the last 6 has moved water, all passes up to the last one were at 17#
maybe i can just get the (all pro) heads cut to make it through the summer?
forget solid roller, i had to adjust the lash on this mustang yesterday and it was not the most fun i've ever had. between the sun and engine heat i think i thinned the oil with sweat

awesome MPH David!!! Damn I bet you thought that heavy bitch wasnt gonna stop on the big end! I am anticipating the same prob you and everyone else is having at that power level. I am gonna wait till its cool out and try to get a good et on lower boost and hit the dyno to get the magic 1k hp. Maybe you should turn it down for now and just work on 330' at lower boost settings that wont leak and then go for it in the fall/winter when the air is much better. I am afraid I will eventually have to go o-ring myself

I'm sure a turbo is a little harder on head gaskets then a centrifugal blower.
RWHP using weight/mph wont matter much if you lift for bit, it just figures how much power it takes to push a XXXX pound car XXX mph. If you didnt lift and it ran 151 then it would change naturally. Its just a guide and doesnt take wind/aerodynamics for each car and those hp numbers have nothing to with peak dyno numbers, its more average power.
I would just get the heads flattened out and try again, I thought you just had everything freshened up?

I have heard of factory heads and blocks where the deck of the block and heads come from the factory uneven not sure the amount, but it is enough to cause sealing issues maybe .002 or so??? Sucks to have to pull the motor, but maybe just pulling the heads and checking the surface would be all that is needed, but maybe the deck of the block is off too??????

Can you guys elaborate, when you say the engine pushed water ??
Im only home from racing on Saturday, but struggled with 10.2 at 144mph...down a few mph over some previous runs...
On my 6th, and final run, at the top end of 3rd gear, and throughout 4th gear, My cooling system pressure hit about 28psi.
Top end of 3rd seen it rise to circa 20psi, then drop for a split second, then rise to 28psi when i hit 4th gear. Car did lose some power at this point.
It blew about a litre of water out of the cap.
When I re-filled with water, and started the engine again, it seemed to be running ok ( compression is defo down though, as it doesnt sound normal winding over ).
But I drove it circa 550 miles home, and cooling system pressure stayed low throughout.
Stock GM 5.7 MLS gaskets that have been on since May 2006 when I built this engine. So I cant complain really...
Im going to try and get my block deck machined, and the heads, just in case... Heads should be good, but I just used the block as I got it a few years ago, it has never been machined flat, aside from its original build from the factory.
But do I go with the MLS again ? or will I give the ICS Titan's I have a try ?
The MLS have served me very very well, but I am tempted to try the ICS gaskets.
