Default want 600HP, which block to chose?

first off all, i'am kinda new to this site, i owe a couple of Ty's and 1 Syclone,

i would like to swap to v8 (ofcourse with turbo) for the bang for the buck, upgrading a v6, is kinda expensive, and still not as stout as the newer v8's.
stock they are around 330hp or so.
i read the topic about parish and his 5.3L v8 and i really like the idea of using that for an engine.

so can anyone help me with some advice?
Thanks

I went with an LS6 aluminum block. You should be fine with AL at that power level. If you were going to run a lot of boost and make over 750rwhp you may want to go to an iron block. But there are even people on here who have done more than that with aluminum.

and what should be done to a vortec 5.3 L and swap the heads from a 6.0 one to lower the compression? i'am just thinking aout loud, cause i think the 5.3L's are abit cheaper cause alot of them are swaping the engines for bigger ones.

buy a complete 5.3 to get your bugs worked out(you can get them $450-$500) run it till it pukes. Then bore it to a 5.7 and put forged internals in it, with some 5.7 or 6.0 heads. Then you'll have a 5.7 iron block that will hold up to some major boost, and not have a ton of $$ tied up in it. Just my .02

I don't think any LS* block will blink at 600hp. Hell a few of us are making around that with stock engines and turbos.

I belive an LS1 block with forged rods and pistons and a stock crank has been known to hold up to 1000hp.

May as well get an LS6... same thing pretty much, and roughly same price. Check out SDPC. I believe they are around $650 or so IIRC from last time I checked.

Do the LS1 aluminum block.I would order a forged piston setup. Then decent heads, small cam and 10-14lbs of boost will easilly bring you past 600rwhp.

SDPC? i'am not an american so i don't understand..

about a forged setup, i would like it alot, but i want to stay on a budget build for now. i have a Ty with approx 400-500HP which is screaming fast already at 12psi. so 500-600HP with a V8 in a Sy would be kicking. esp.with the 4l80E gears

not trying to shoot down any sponsors here but if you want to go forged and do it as cheap as possible then the only company i have come across was TSP and their forged 347 shortblock for i beleive $2800+shipping. that is the cheapest i could find anywhere...or maby a member here has something sitting around they would be willing to part with..don't forget to check the for sale forums and post in the wanted section as well...or try the sponsors...they always have deals runnin...i just hardly ever have the money!! lol

Parish has a Ford Fairmont drag car he is playing with and installed a stock 5.3 engine/TH400 with C5 Z06 Corvette cam (great for turbo setups)/better springs and T70.

He is making about 600rwhp with no signs of issues.

I would copy his setup:

When I was looking for a shortblock, I contacted a LOT of sponsors (TSP included) In fact, I really wanted to go with TSP for everything initially. However, I had a better experience dealing with SDPC and especially Matt. Send anyone at TSP a PM the same time you send one to Matt. I'll bet Matt responds first. He got me the best price too for everything I was looking for. I'm not knocking sponsors either, just stating my experience. I got a forged 347 with all the trimmings (ARP studs, upgraded compstar rods, mahle pistons, fully machined and balanced etc) for like 2900. You can't beat that with a stick, and no other sponsors would even touch that price with those upgrades. You won't be sorry if you choose to go with SDPC. OK, thats my shpeel for tonight LOL.
