Default Lots of Black smoke???

I've been noticing my car is smoking a lot. It seems every time I go fool boost it smokes like a freaken diesel engine. Do you guys think it might be time for some new spark plugs or do I have a bigger problem? Any help greatly appreciated.

Andy, I'd change spark plugs (NGK pn# 4177, gapped at .035) and the front 02 sensors, and see if that takes care of it. Bob

Thanks Bob. One quick question can I get those o2 sensors anywhere i.e (autozone) or is it factory only sensors. If you have the part number I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks again Andy

Bob, do you think that my fuel problems might be caused by bad sensors and spark plugs??

They certainly do not help. Fouled plags do not fully burn all the air/fuel mixture, can clog up the sensors, and make the cats burn up the extra fuel. I would replace the plugs and at least look at the sensors.

If you have access to a wide band it wouldn't be a bad idea to verify the A/F. It may be super rich.

+1, black smoke usually means too much fuel.

When is it going rich? If under load then is there any changes to the car recently? If at idle, check to make sure the map sensor is working by running a scan tool and checking the idle KPA, it should be in the 50 range.

No, it only seems to smoke under load eventhough my fuel pressure gauge hits 50...So who knows?? On another note I changed out the spark plugs the other day and found them to be some what burned. I'm trying to see if theres something I can compare them to. To see if I'm going lean or rich... Any help appreciated..

Are you still making the same consistant boost? If not then it may be an issue with a blown off pipe or a MAF issue.

check o2 if u got a logger see if its cycling correctly other wise like they said start simple plugs ex.. seems like u are either unable to burn all the fuel in the combustion chamber or (which is less likley) seals in turbo are starting to go.. compression test wouldnt kill u either but seems more so related to fuel.

Too rich!
I had the same issues and it was just running rich do to an intake leak- air was leaking into the intake track on boost, causing black smoke- leak found and all is ok again....

my car started to black smoke everytime I nailed it. Then I broke a ring landing, that was with my heads and cam. That is also the reason I'm going FI.
