Question Which Forged Engine for Boost???

I am about to get into my new engine build over the fall/winter. Got some good questions about who, what, and how much ect...

1.) What size are most of you guys running and what are your reasons why? 346, 364, 370, 402, or 434

2.) Who are you guys getting your work done by? Which Shops, Organizations, Companies.

3.) What block along with head/cam combos seem to be the best all around package?

4.) What kind of power and at what boost level are you guys making with your given block/setup?

5.) Also how much is a ballpark of how much each block cost from diff. providers of these LSX engines and setups?

Any extra input you guys can throw at me would be greatly appreciated!

Are you wanting to go the turbo and supercharger route? Each route greatly influences the answers to your questions.

Give Late Model Racecraft a call in Houston, Tx. They did my complete turbo build. They will be able to point you in the right direction.

You could call Weber Racing and talk to Leo. They can get you a bad *** shortblock for sure. I just ordered a 370 shortblock from them that I am going to be putting a procharger on.

Here was my ultimate decision and build:

1) 347

2) Got the shortblock from SDPC- great customer service and best prices by a long shot!

3) LS6 block/ Stock 6.0L heads, comp cam 224/232 .581/.595 114+2

4) Made 632rwhp at 14psi on my P1SC setup. Still working out the bugs on the F1 setup, but hoping to be in the 650~700rwhp range with 15psi...

5) $3000 for the shortblock with LS6 crank, compstar rods, mahle pistons, ARP 12-point studs. $350 for the heads, $245 for the spring kit, $380 for the cam

Here was my build sheet before I got overwhelmed and stopped keeping track

Im going to continue to run the D1SC Procharger or upgrade to the F1. Staying the supercharged route at this time.

418 l-92, I fiqured the more power and torque you can make n.a. the more power and torque you can make f.i., with less boost...a 347 would have to run 16-18 psi to make the power a 408-427 can make at 10-12...imo....

2.) Who are you guys getting your work done by? Which Shops, Organizations, Companies.

texas-speed

3.) What block along with head/cam combos seem to be the best all around package?

l-92 block and heads

4.) What kind of power and at what boost level are you guys making with your given block/setup?

879hp/1000tq on 12 psi, 93 octane...

5.) Also how much is a ballpark of how much each block cost from diff. providers of these LSX engines and setups?

aluminum blocks normally cost more...and should handle a fair amount of power...bought my heads and short block from texas-speed...it even came with a warrenty...

do alot of research before starting your build, I researched mine for 3 months before I bought the first part and I still had to go back and change some things, but I believe the researched saved me alot of headache in the long run...goodluck

read in the quote for the answers...

Ive got a few different goals!

Goal one to have a 10 Sec street drivable car. May or may not be possible, depending what setup I go with.

Another goal, I come from a smaller home town. An 04 Cobra is pushin 650 RWHP and it pisses me off, so Ive got to beat on his ***! And of course along with that pretty much be the best of the best in my area! (I know there is always someone who will do more, but 700 RWHP or so is pretty tough no matter where you go.)

Other than that I just want it to be built very well, make gobs of power, and be as reliable as possible with boost being pushed though it. (Thats basically how I put together the setup I have now)

I went witha speed inc iron 370. The LS2 block was new stuff at the time and unprobvv en so i stuck with iron. Now i wish i wenty LS2. I didnt want a monster cube motor on the street as hooking up crazy torque is not fun and with my blower the extra cubes would be a waste in my opinion. 346 seemed small so i wanted something a lil bigger and the D1SC i have should be able to feed the 370 well.

10s isnt alot to ask for. My stock internal 5.3 with pretty much same cam you got and bowl ported 6.0L heads on 15# runs mid 10s in a 3640lbs car. with weak 1.60 60ft times.
If your only shootin for 10s, cubes will not really matter much.
I drive mine everywhere too.

Current plans are for a 408 most likely iron block.Although not 100% ruled out ls2 block.
For sure all forged parts crank, rods and pistons. Still fighting head choice.Want afr for sure 205 or possibly 225s. Have gt7 lingenfelter cam might go to gt11 lingenfelter cam.
Have fast 90 /NW 90tb already.Sticking with that. Bigger displacement will give more torque off boost. It should also help spool up turbos at lower rpm.Might also let you get same power at lower boost levels with bigger motor and better flowing heads.

If your looking for over 650 rwhp and want decent driveability and be able to run pump gas then the bigger the CI the better. Id say an ls2 402 stroker/iron 408/lsx 427/ or l92 stroker setup (41X CI). Any of those options would serve you well and just get the best internals available and you will be good to go. I would say though to spend the most $$ on the internals as you can go a little cheaper on the Heads if budget is an issue. If that is the case then just run your 6.0 liter heads (depend on which block you go with of course) and a decent blower cam with patriot extreme dual springs or better.
