If you have a forged bottom end, you won't have any problems. We've run stock type heads at 16 psi of boost. Bob

How did you blow yours up? Looking at your old setup horsepower numbers I can probably tell why. Got a new setup yet to point razorclaw99 in the right direction?

I ran it up to 12-13psi... on 42lb injectors... with a single Wallbro 255... With a good hook 1.54 60'. Ended up busting a ringland... I kinda knew I was pushing the limits, when I made my 607RWHP run there was a fair amount of "blow-by" of the rings... the fuel was pretty stable but not as low as it should have been. I wanted to be the first Rearmount in the 10's... and the only one on a stock block. Didnt happen however... best I could muster before I broke her was 11.01.

All that being said... I was on LQ9 stock truck heads (Dropped the compression a bit). If he is on stock heads and stock lower end, I wouldnt go above 10psi... and I would make 100% sure the fuel stays right.

I agree, longrange knows his ****, trust us. Anything over 10, reliability greatly decreases for the little gain you get out of it.

Well, it will still make more power. But of course ported or aftermarket heads will make even more power..

Stock heads won't be a problem at that boost level. It's the bottom end that'll become an issue. You'll probably have to back some timing out of it, which in turn will reduce power, vs more timing with lower compression.

well i have a forged bottom end..its just i cant really afford awesome heads now and i need a tune..so i was debating if tuning it now will waste money because later on when i get heads i will need another tune, so im just seeing how much stock heads can produce..

Stock heads can handle 14 to 16 psi of boost, so you can indeed use them. We always use ARP head studs and GM MLS head gaskets.
You will naturally get more horsepower when you upgrade to better flowing heads, and you will indeed want to get the car retuned to take advantage of the heads. Bob

Ahhh I see... my mistake I should have looked at your sig closer. Most guys giving tunes will give you free updates... or updates for cheap. Changing out th heads wouldnt be a huge change to the tune... but it would be nessessary to have them re-tweak it some. So I guess your answer is two part... yes you can run that PSI on stock heads (use ARP Bolts for saftey)... yes you will need your tune tweaked when you swap your heads.

Jared
