Default Who here has an APS Kit?

Post your power numbers and your 1/4 mile times

I'm thinking of making the switch from gas to boost...what do you guys think? I haven't sprayed my car yet, I'd have to toss out my headers, my exhaust and change out my MS3 cam....all of which have MAYBE 1,000 miles on them lol

stupid i know

but worth it? I can't afford to build up my block, so I don't know what kind of psi I can run. I'm assuming I can upgrade the APS kit fairly easily?

Thanks guys

If you can't afford to build up your block, you're probably going to want to wait.

well lets just say I rather not build my block just yet.

enjoy the boost with the stock block, and when it gets boring after a year or so, then build it one winter

Keep what you've got until you've got the money to do it all at once.

Thats my oppinion. But I personally hate doing things half assed, or having to go back and do things over.

Do all the research you want, but I just wouldn't plan ANYTHING until you get close to having all the money you need. Or at least fix the **** you may break as a result of boosting. There's never a 'completely safe' setup with FI. You maybe lucky and never have a problem, but you also maybe lucky and have a connecting rod through the side of your block.

Research, save, do.

Minimal risk if you keep to stock boost on stock engine. Thats what the kits were made for. Of course you will still need some bigger injectors, fuel pump upgrade or boost a pump.Tuning of course is key and alc injection would be a good idea on pump gas.
And upgraded clutch is necessary or upgraded auto also a good idea. And you might break rear ends if you get traction on drag tires.

But would not be paranoid. Buy the kit and run it and quit worrying. I know several guys running fi on their stock ls1s around here and so far most of them are still running fine. The guys that got greedy with boost or made stupid mistakes with tuning well ..

do it, what kinda power are you looking for? The only reason why I ask is that you are already setup perfectly for a maggie. I have seen people get into the high 500's rear wheel with no meth or anything else.

That would also let you keep your headers, cam (ms3 is actually a decent cam for a maggie) , and your exhaust set up in place.

True also you can keep your headers with a procharger. You would have to sell them with aps or other front mount kit of course. You can keep your catback and cutout of course.

go for it man. theres nothing you can do to your motor with turbos that you cant do with juice. if its time to go, than its gonna go. only thing you can hope for is your tune if good and you dont try to get crazy with it and run stupid amount of boost on a stock mill.

there is a maggie kit from lms I believe and I think that it is somewhere in the 6k range. The only reason why I said maggie over procharger is that a ms3 is a good maggie cam but definitely not a good cam for the procharger. The highest I have seen for their kit with a magic stick cam is 574 rwhp and I forget the tq#.

That would definitely be my choice, if it was not soo power limited. That high 5xx without alky or n20 is about all that you are going to get out of it. I just love pd blowers though, and I am really thinking about waiting for RJW to finish his stuff up and put a whipple or a KB on the camaro.

I have the kit and have been enjoying the hell out of it on my stock block (over 4,000 miles on the set-up before the car went into storage). I only upgraded my pushrods & valvesprings and fuel system. At 7psi I made 508rwhp/513rwtq. I ran a 12.5@122 on Street tires (KDW). I am very happy with the kit and it has more power than I have traction already.
