Running N2O with FI can certainly be done, but one needs to be careful doing so as the affects of each other are not additive. A 50hp shot on nitrous on a FI car will be more. The extra amount depends on the car and setup. I would start out will a small shot like 25hp or so and go from there. Keep and eye on the A/F as it can change quickly and sometimes drastically. Also watch for knock too.

I've done it.Not on a chevy motor but a vortech supercharged bmw.I added a coolmist w/i kit ran 30% meth and 12 lbs of boost on a 11/1 motor.A 25hp dry shot yeilded me 4mph in the 1/4.I went from trapping 116 to 120.
Untouched engine other than arp head bolts.

both add cyclinder pressure?

so why not just turn up the boost-

not having a go i just want to know why u would rather put n20 rather then turn up the boost up?

Thanks-

The nitrous can make an excellent secondary charge cooler on top of the extra power it delivers. And it helps the turbo(s) spool. Properly done, it's a win/win.

All I recommend is a way, like a Multi-Step Retard Box, to pull extra timing out only when you are spraying.

Okat fair point-but looking at what u got to do and spend to get a cooling affect-

would'nt it be cheaper+safer to run like a meth injection-

cost+n20+tune+retard box- compared to a meth injection kit and turn up the boost without retarding

i will agree that n2o does have a major affect of cooling-

I have everything ready to add a 2-stage progressive shot (100 for the 1st stage, 50 for the 2nd, to start with) to my Vortech-blown 434" SBC. Since I have a centrifugal blower (V-2 T-trim) which makes great hi-end power but virtually nothing at 3500, I'll use the nitrous for track runs and pesky hi-powered street opponents...

I can't expect anything more from the T-trim - at 6500 engine rpm the Vortech will be hitting its max rpm which should be about 9# on the big motor. I'm getting 11.7# now on the 383.

Meth is cool (literally) but isn't a true power adder. Since I have meth as well, I'm considering using the meth as fuel with the nitrous. Then I can eliminate one fuel tank. I have a 3-gallon fuel cell for the nitrous setup. Maybe a 50/50 blend of C16 and meth?

There is a guy in Michigan who runs a Yamaha 4 stroke with a turbo and N20. I believe he sprays a quick shot on a timer of about 1 to 1.4 seconds to spool it up. It works pretty good, but I've never heard nor seen him runnig it out the back door. I hope you have a wideband, good luck.

I am going with boost reference w/maximizerII or rpm 100 shot. Either way it's
an option I like having depending on track conditions (I.E. temps, prep).
For the $ though, meth with SC would be the way to go. But with with our
altitude, more is better. Fuel is a priority of course.

inject nitrous with meth, its been done and very effective. then you dont have to worry about retarding timing.

Default your question

I have a 383 set up almost like yours but i am running 12.6 lbs of boost @6100. I would look at you flow first and for most. If your heads or intake or cam are not flowing what they should you will build boost but not make the kinda of hp you could. for example i have a 383 with trick flow twisted heads 2.08 / 1.60 valves heavly ported to match intake and throtle body and i made 602 rwhp. just something to look into.

That looks like my plan right now. I have a totally separate fuel system set up for the nitrous, and then I went and got an FJO Racing Alky system. So instead of another fuel tank, I'm thinking of running one alky tank with 2 pumps - the hi-pressure one from the alky injection to the alky solenoid, and a normal EFI pump for the alky & plate nitrous setup.

I'm pumped!

Jim
