Default Should I install new rings for turbo setup?

Im going to be using my already forged bottom end (that was built for nitrous)with my twin turbo setup. However, it seems to smoke a little at WOT when on the dyno....nothing horrible though. Should I have new rings installed? Some people say since it was built for nitrous, it was built "loose" and that could casue it to smoke more.
I hate to have the turbos cause alot more smoke at WOT from alot more pressure in the cylinders. Any suggestions?

thanks

Good post. I'm wondering the same thing with my build, but I think I'm going to take my chances. ONLY because I have never noticed any smoke on startup or under WOT on the track or on the dyno....well and because I'm trying to be as budget as possible and still make good power.

yea, I hate to pull the motor because other than some smoke at WOT, the bottom end is perfect. I just dont know if adding the boost will cause a **** pile more smoke at WOT. If I knew it would stay the same as it is now, I would leave it alone

02EBZ06, is your motor stock bottom end? If it is and you never had a problem, id leave it alone and run 8lbs. you'll be Ok.

Nah it's a forged 347 bottom with mahle -2cc flattops, compstar rods, and the stock crank. Previous owner built the motor for nitro. Gonna try and squeek 14 lbs out of it on good gas

If it smokes now it will continue to smoke. it wouldnt be a bad idea to replace them.

Bringing this one back up. I took off my oil pan to drill the oil line hole in it and went ahead and checked a main bearing. Turns out they're messed up so I'm rebuilding this thing the right way. I'm re-ringing the motor while I'm at it and trying to decide between the Total Seal AP series rings, or going all out and spending the money on some Hellfire rings. I'm only going to boost up to 14 lbs, and from what I've heard the Hellfire's may be overkill for my app.

You dont want to go too tight with a standard style piston ring or the rings will heat up and butt ends under boost. That is why n/a ring gap is different than fi and nos. Not sure about the gapless setup though. HTH Chris

I'm gonna leave this up to the machine shop, let them set it all up and do the rings, etc. I'll just button up the bottomend with a friend of mine thats done several motors before.
